I have been a professional bassist for over 10 years. I specialize in upright bass, electric bass, and some keyboard. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Music from Northern Michigan University, and studied with bassists Richard Davis, David Friesen, David Ziegner, and violinist Barbara Rhyneer. I have worked professionally with jazz musicians Dick Berk, Jon Mayer, and Ron Steen. I have played blues with guitarists Billy Flynn and Felix Reyes, vocalist Earl Thomas, and organists Doc Woodward and Paul Linden. I was also a member of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra from 2009-2016. I have played all styles of music from country western, to bar rock, to Latin, to pit orchestra musicals. My students have won top awards in their respective school music programs, and have earned positions in professional jobs.

Jonathan did a great job. I’m starting from scratch! Patient and very understanding. Loved it.
John is a very effective teacher. I took bass lessons and I have improved so much. John is an amazing teacher and I would recommend him to anyone looking to learn the bass guitar or upright bass.
Jonathan taught me when I was around middle school age and has left a lasting impression on how I approach the bass and music 10-ish years later. Under his tutelage I learned music theory, techniques, and all sorts of different genres and styles. His lessons were always very professional. I always felt challenged, but not overwhelmed, by the material being taught. He also made it easy to be interested in the lessons; he would always ask if there's any song or genre that I wanted to learn and that sort of thing. Overall, definitely a 5/5 top shelf educator and musician.
