Hello, all! I am Joseph Alberico, and I currently study Horn Performance at the Eastman School of Music, pursuing a Bachelor's degree. I am under the tutelage, primarily, of W. Peter Kurau, the Principal Horn of the Rochester Philharmonic. I have also studied with many other horn heroes, including William VerMeulen (Principal Horn- Houston Symphony), Jacek Muzyk (Principal Horn- Buffalo Philharmonic), and Jennifer Montone (Principal Horn- Philadelphia Orchestra). I have performed as a guest soloist with the Central Winds Wind Ensemble as a concerto competition winner (R. Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1), and occasionally perform with Symphoria (formerly known as the Syracuse Symphony). In addition to this, I have performed with the Eastman Wind Orchestra, the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, and a brass quintet that recieved honors distinctions and performed for the likes of the U.S. Navy Brass Quintet, and Canadian Brass. I have about two years of experience teaching beginner and intermediate level players. I look forward to teaching students of any level how to build a solid craft and become an excellent musician, in a way that makes horn playing effortless and enjoyable!

Joe Alberico is a musician who is very well versed in speaking about the tips and tricks when expressing the sounds an instrument can make. While he may be talented in speaking through the horn he’s also very talented in explaining the steps in how to do so at a high level. When I was preparing a solo originally meant for horn, he seemed to know everything about the motion of every phrase in the piece and what is necessary on how to achieve a true beauty is a piece’s story. With his teachings he has made me a better musician as he opened my eyes to what power there is behind music and how we can achieve that said impact that music sets to accomplish.

Working with Joe has been one of the most profitable musical experiences I have ever had the opportunity of having. His knowledge of music theory and his technical and musical know-how on the French horn are unparalleled, and his compassion as an educator were incredibly helpful in my musical journey. Joe is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to chamber music, orchestral excerpts, and general technical playing.

Joe showed me that classical music could be exciting and engaging. By talking to him about the particularities and subtleties that every piece holds, I was able to understand just how beautiful every great work really was. By hearing him then play those pieces, I was able to hear exactly what we were discussing. In short, Joe has opened up a side of music I'd never considered, and that makes me a better listener, collaborator, and player.
