I am adept at teaching proper technique in a way that makes horn playing easy and fun! I aim to address healthy principles of beautiful sound production, as well as attention to detail, phrasing, and overall aristry. For newer players, the focus will lie on building a solid, efficient technique, which in time can expand into beautiful music making. I teach students of any level.

About Joe A.

Hello, all! I am Joseph Alberico, and I currently study Horn Performance at the Eastman School of Music, pursuing a Bachelor's degree. I am under the tutelage, primarily, of W. Peter Kurau, the Principal Horn of the Rochester Philharmonic. I have also studied with many other horn heroes, including William VerMeulen (Principal Horn- Houston Symphony), Jacek Muzyk (Principal Horn- Buffalo Philharmonic), and Jennifer Montone (Principal Horn- Philadelphia Orchestra).

I have performed as a guest soloist with the Central Winds Wind Ensemble as a concerto competition winner (R. Strauss Horn Concerto No. 1), and occasionally perform with Symphoria (formerly known as the Syracuse Symphony). In addition to this, I have performed with the Eastman Wind Orchestra, the Eastman School Symphony Orchestra, and a brass quintet that recieved honors distinctions and performed for the likes of the U.S. Navy Brass Quintet, and Canadian Brass.

I have about two years of experience teaching beginner and intermediate level players. I look forward to teaching students of any level how to build a solid craft and become an excellent musician, in a way that makes horn playing effortless and enjoyable!

Joe Alberico is a musician who is very well versed in speaking about the tips and tricks when expressing the sounds an instrument can make. While he may be talented in speaking through the horn he’s also very talented in explaining the steps in how to do so at a high level. When I was preparing a solo originally meant for horn, he seemed to know everything about the motion of every phrase in the piece and what is necessary on how to achieve a true beauty is a piece’s story. With his teachings he has made me a better musician as he opened my eyes to what power there is behind music and how we can achieve that said impact that music sets to accomplish.

Working with Joe has been one of the most profitable musical experiences I have ever had the opportunity of having. His knowledge of music theory and his technical and musical know-how on the French horn are unparalleled, and his compassion as an educator were incredibly helpful in my musical journey. Joe is incredibly knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to chamber music, orchestral excerpts, and general technical playing.

Joe showed me that classical music could be exciting and engaging. By talking to him about the particularities and subtleties that every piece holds, I was able to understand just how beautiful every great work really was. By hearing him then play those pieces, I was able to hear exactly what we were discussing. In short, Joe has opened up a side of music I'd never considered, and that makes me a better listener, collaborator, and player.

The level of excellence, preparedness, and dedication to the craft that Joe brings to table is well beyond his years. His thoughtful and insightful comments into my playing have not only helped me improve but inspired me to pursue the excellence he expects of me. Whether it's brass quintet music, wind ensemble, solo, or orchestral works Joe always seems to know what to say to bring out the music in whatever work I'm playing. He is wonderful to work with, and I'd highly recommend him to anybody yearning for an incredible experience on the horn.

Joe Alberico has does such a amazing job improving my auditions! Such a well rounded player. Full dark sound. Meaningful intent. Flexible. And he knows how to pass this down to other players. From working with him through mock auditions, I learn the intent behind my playing and how to fill up every hall I play in. Great teacher 👍

Joe's incredible listening ability allows him to analyze and critique one's playing down to the nitty-gritty and then give great constructive advice to help the individual to achieve their goals. He calls it like it is and prescribes you the solution. As simple and effective as that. Joe really cares a lot about your success and it's obvious from his passion for teaching.

Joe is one of the finest horn players I have ever worked with. His ability to rapidly diagnose and repair problems in playing makes him a standout teacher. In addition, his expansive knowlage of the horn literature allows him to be a critical resource in the development of horn players of all levels. On top of that, his own ability on the horn inspires and motivates his students to strive for greatness. Overall, I would strongly recommend lessons with Joe!
