For those who have never read music before! This is an introduction to the fundamentals of music theory: how to read, write, play, and understand rhythms, basic notation, basic harmony, and ear training. We will work on clapping exercises, learning easy piano melodies, and singing. For kids that are taking music classes, I can also help with their homework assignments.

Joan is a passionate drummer, percussionist, and teacher. She plays any genre and performs regularly all over Southern California. She has also performed on television shows including Saturday Night Live, Good Morning America, David Letterman, MTV TRL, and the Ellen Show. Joan earned her Bachelors of Music in Percussion Performance from the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music at CSU Long Beach.

Our Daughter picked an instructor after reading all the reviews and decided on Joan. She didn't want lessons, typical early teen "can learn it on my own", but we persisted and told her to just give it a chance. She thoroughly enjoyed her lesson from Joan and now can't wait for the next.

We cannot say enough about Joan. She is so talented, patient, funny, relatable, consistent, creative and caring. Joan has taught both of my kids for years. To keep both interested and engaged through preteen and now teenage years takes a gifted teacher. We would highly recommend her.
