Learn how to sing from a professional Opera Singer/Musical Theater performer

As someone who is comfortable with a variety of musical genres, and techniques, the first thing I want to do with any student is to identify their goals, desires, and ability, and then tailor fit a technique to best compliment those assets. After singing opera professionally for over 11 years, I truly feel that a fundamental approach to singing through "24 Italian Songs and Arias", American/English Art Song, Golden-Age Musical Theater, and Vaccai exercises are the perfect training grounds for the establishment of a healthy, and sustainable vocal technique. For intermediate, and advanced students I aim to incorporate French, and German Art Song, in addition to arias/songs from composers such as Mozart, Handel, Donizetti, Rossini, Bellini, Bernstein, Sondheim, and Gershwin to expand upon various techniques. Unlike some teachers, though, I feel that there is no single-way to teach singing, and I positively love to experiment with a wide variety of vocal, and breathing exercises to achieve the best possible result. I want my studio to be a stress-free environment where we are free to make mistakes, try out different singing methods, and simply have fun! Singing is an outpouring of the soul, and the best music making happens when one allows themselves to surrender to the spirit of the music, all while scaffolded by a solid vocal technique. Let's get together and custom-fit a technique to make you the best singer you can possibly be!!!

Hello, My name is Jesus M. I am an operatic Bass-Baritone, and after teaching for over a decade I have come to learn that there is not a one-size-fits all method in the learning and teaching singing. Flexibility, comfortably, and enjoyability are the the three main pillars of my studio; and when supported by these, we are able to create a learning environment that allows for every lesson to not only be productive, but endlessly enjoyable. With this said, it is my goal to custom tailor my approach to each student based on their technical proficiency, natural ability, and personal goals. For beginning students, we will approach the fundamental techniques of singing (legato, onsets, breath support) through the through the lens of Italian Art Song, English/American Art Song, Golden-Age Musical Theater, and Vaccai exercises. For upper-level students, we will study German/French Art Song, in addition to arias by Mozart, Handel, and Rossini, Donizetti, Gilbert & Sullivan, Bach, and many others. I have sung professionally since 2010 when I made my professional debut at the age of 18. I received my Bachelor of Music: Vocal Performance from The University of Michigan, and my Master of Music: Opera and Voice Performance from McGill University, in Montreal Canada. Among my professional experiences, I have had the honor of performing at some of the greatest opera companies in North America, including The Metropolitan Opera, Santa Fe Opera, Opera Theater of Saint Louis, Detroit Opera, Opera Baltimore, Utah Opera and many more. So, with an arsenal of academic and real world experience at my disposal, let's get together and create a game plan to cultivate your voice into the best instrument it can be!!!

Jesus is simply incredible to work with. I went to him thinking we would immediately start singing opera arias, but instead we started with the absolute fundamentals of singing. We focused on vocal and breathing exercises for the first few lessons, and then slowly started working on songs. My sound is so much more consistent now, I can hold a tune better than I ever thought I could, and he has helped me discover notes I didn’t even know I could sing. He is amazing. I love working with him. Do yourself a favor and take lessons with Jesus. 5-Stars!!!
