Jerry S. I am an experienced piano and organ teacher with many years of music teaching experience with the very youngest to the oldest student (senior citizen). I have taught many years in student’s homes but I have also taught in music store studios at different locations. In addition, I have conducted classes in piano in my home school district for their adult evening school. This included a class for beginners and one for intermediate piano students. My approach to teaching is basically that playing piano should be enjoyable and fun so I tailor the lessons to the type of music in which the student has interest. I do, however, have a basic structure that includes reading music, finger dexterity and songs at the student’s playing level. If there is an interest in popular music I have an “easy to learn” approach to chords and accompaniments. I have even given lessons in composition. I also have a background performing in small groups as well as solo piano and organ in clubs and at social functions. I believe that music should be a part of everyone’s life and that it is an easy and fun thing to do.
