Whether you want to learn a few songs, improve your chops or all-out shred, your lessons are designed to get your playing where you want it to be. Your lesson plan will be custom-tailored to your ability and geared toward your goals as a guitarist.
In addition to private lessons, I am currently a guitar/bass instructor at Oregon Music Academy with students of all ages and skill levels.
I have over 20 years of guitar-playing under my belt, 10 years teaching experience and a B.A. in Music to boot! I played guitar in a bunch of bands and currently play bass in Light Creates Shadow, a rock band here in Portland, OR. I love music of all styles and am passionate about passing along my music knowledge to my students.
Your lesson plan (Roadmap) will include the following:
Technique - You will learn proper playing technique to ensure accurate playing as well as an injury-free career.
The Fretboard - Learn notes, scales, arpeggios and know your way around your instrument.
Harmony - Learn how to play chords, how to write music using chords, chord inversions and more.
Musicianship - Music theory, improvisation, songwriting, sight-reading, and everything an aspiring guitarist needs.
Progress Reports (Checkpoints) - Don't worry, this isn't a report card! This is just a check in every so often to remind us how far we have come and where we want to go from here.
My teaching style is based on the following core values:
Your success as a musician is my main priority and I will do my absolute best to guide you along your path.
Shoot me a message and we can get started immediately :)
Guitar instructor at formal music academy. Oregon Music Academy focuses on all-around music development and strong emphasis on reading notes, music theory and proper technique.
I play bass in a power-trio in Portland, OR. We are a hard-to-heavy rock group with a touch of prog. Our songs feature shifts in time signatures, changes in dynamics while creating memorable songs.
Teaching lessons from home as well as travelling to the homes of my students
While completing my BA in Music and Recording Technology at University of Wisconsin, I fell in love with teaching guitar and passing along the gift of music to my students.
Jered continues to be a fantastic teacher. He took the time to get to know what my goals are, he gives me good feedback, and he assigns me "homework" that is relevant and helpful to my progress. We focus on both the technique of playing bass as well as the the purpose and "feel" of the bass in different songs. I have fun at my lessons and look forward to them every week, and my bass playing continues to improve.+ Read More
