Hi, my name is Jenny, and I am a Chicago-based flutist and teacher. It's nice to "meet" you! :)
Your first trial lesson is free. I have a variety of flexible times available to suit your busy schedule and budget. I also provide in-home lessons, in order to make music more accessible to all families. I offer lessons at my studio in West Town for a reduced rate. I have a flexible make-up lesson policy - you'll always get what you pay for. I also strive to give each student their full time, even with a late arrival. Additionally, I provide consultations for choosing the flute, and often travel with my students to find the right instrument. I also offer assistance in preparing young students for school band and orchestra.
I have been told that my teaching style is fun, personalized, and demanding, while my personality is easy-going and friendly. :) I truly want to meet the needs of each student and parent - and teach to the personality of each student. I seek to empower my students to make their own choices and keep mutual communication open and constructive with parents.
In lessons, my students play duets and solos from all eras of music, work on having great flute technique, and learn to express themselves through music.
Every year, we have a Spring recital and a handful of low key studio gatherings, so family, students, and friends can enjoy celebrating our achievements in music.
Many of my students in the past have won local festival competitions, have been featured in solo performances, and have continued to play flute for years.
I currently hold a Bachelor of Music from Northwestern University. I have experience teaching large classrooms, small sectionals, and private lessons, and have worked with over 400 students in the past 8 years. Additionally, I occasionally play flute and piccolo in Chicago City-Wide Orchestra. I also enjoy improvisation and experimental music. At the beginning of the school year, you can find me teaching flute clinics at school music programs throughout Chicago.
Come grow and learn, love music, and flute on!
Why do I love teaching?
Teaching is very rewarding for me. I love helping people reach their goals. I enjoy supporting local music businesses and education programs, and I'm happy to lend a hand to anyone who needs assistance. Each time I give to the music community, I feel supported in turn. For me, teaching is all about building relationships, friendships, and a community around music lovers in Chicago.
Thanks so much for visiting my profile! Flute on!
The Monarch school is school for homeless children in downtown San Diego. I was an outsourced music teacher for the third grade class. I taught recorder and music literacy.
• Design curriculum incorporating music literacy, history, recorder, rhythm, and learning of folk songs
• Manage classes with 20 students, lasting 30 to 40 minutes
• Collaborate with school's External Programs Coordinator, funding donor, and classroom teacher to arrange lesson times and communicate progress of students
After I finished my Bachelor's degree, I opened a studio in Lakeview, Chicago. I am currently located in Noble Square. The studio started out with 4th grade flute students preparing for band, and a few adult students returning to the flute.
Instructed students between the ages of 3-65 with a broad range of abilities.
After School Learning Tree is a tutoring center in San Diego, California. I Instruct flute and recorder students at varying skill levels, ages five to eighteen. The School begins students on recorder at a very young age. The students are gradually phased into flute playing, and play in school band and youth symphonies in San Diego.
• Design and implement recorder lesson plans for class with 40 kindergarten students. Prepare students to perform memorized songs with accompaniment for performance showcase.
• Organize and distribute materials for lessons.
• Prepare students to take part in local festivals and performances, including California Certificate of Merit, SD Flute Guild Festival, and The Mozart Festival.

I worked with Jenny at After School Learning Tree in 2014 and 2015. She was my colleague and assistant at my flute studio. Throughout our time teaching together, I saw her display so much care and attention to detail in each lesson. She was always giving me new ideas. The families at our studio invest a lot in the education of their kids, and after a while people were raving to me about her coaching and instruction. Jenny has a world-class training, yet she is so down to earth. She really cares about the students and wants to connect with them on an individual level. I was blown away by her skill as a teacher, and I saw so much improvement in each student’s playing after every lesson. I would HIGHLY recommend people to study with her.+ Read More
Part of my responsibility as manager of La Jolla Music is to seek out the best teachers for our lesson studio. Granted, defining “best” is as subjective as one can get when choosing a music teacher, but I naturally felt comfortable with Ms. Jenny during a part of the interview which involved her patiently teaching me how to blow into a flute headjoint.
The way she encourages and empathizes with students are assets that allow her students to have fun with the learning process and grow musically. Students and parents would regularly express enjoyment of their lessons directly to me, which further demonstrated her love and commitment as a music educator. Most importantly, Ms. Jennifer enjoys children and brings delightful excitement to each lesson. They are engaged because of her connection to each individual, regardless of age or level. I am grateful for Ms. Jennifer to have guided our students musically during her time in San Diego.
She's so awesome.
Jennifer has been a wonderful teacher for my 10 yr old son. He is new to the flute and Jennifer has shown much kindness and patience with him throughout each lesson. She has also been quite inventive in helping motivate him to practice more (I admit to being hands-off about practice since I didn't want to have any other elements in our life to argue about).
Our son also participates in a school band and we were quite touched that Jennifer took the time to attend our school band concert. She has a true enthusiasm for music and she brings that generosity to her lessons.
You'd be lucky to have her as a teacher.
Jennifer is wonderful, caring and patient.
My 6 year old son, Zak has just started taking lessons with Jenny. She is fantastic. He looks forward to his weekly lessons and has amazed us how quickly he has progressed. Jenny is inspiring and is extremely patient and supportive. She has helped him build his confidence and rewards progress with stickers and gummy bears which really makes it fun while he is learning. She has a fantastic music library and uses age appropriate materials to inspire him. He absolutely loves going to her for lessons. I strongly recommend Jenny.+ Read More

My son has been taking flute lessons with Jennifer for the last two months. Beginning flute is difficult since it is initially so hard to make nice consistent sounds, but Jennifer has been a fantastic teacher whose supportive style has really helped him get going and has kept him enthusiastic throughout.
