“It is very rarely that I come across a musician who reminds me of the way I was when I was younger, displaying the same passion, enthusiasm, dedication, independence, and excess (in a good way). Jake is one of these happy and precious encounters. A bright future awaits him.” -Jean-Michel Pilc Jake Pinto is a 27 year old multi-instrumentalist/vocalist residing in New York City. He attended New York University’s jazz program where he had incredible opportunities to study and work, both in and out of school, with such luminaries as Francois Moutin, John Scofield, Dafnis Prieto, Gil Goldstein, Dick Hyman and Stefon Harris. In 2010 Jake released In Transit, a jazz trio record and his debut as a leader. The musical explorations of Jake Pinto and his group aim to take the listener on a journey through sound and rhythm. Their music is highly exciting and provocative, drawing influences from countless styles of music and art. After leaving a performance by Jake Pinto and his band listeners feel inspired, enlivened and moved. In New York, Jake has made a name for himself in the pop, rock, and improvised music community. He is a founding member of the 10 piece afrorock outfit EMEFE (featuring members of Antibalas) and has performed with the latest soul project of Truth and Soul Records, Lady (featuring Nicole Wray and members of the Dap Kings). He also leads some of his own projects: Jake Pinto Trio, The YeahTones, Weird Sisters Trio. He has performed around the world opening for Passion Pit, Big Boi, and Rusted Root, among others, at venues ranging from Montreal Jazz Festival, Rochester Jazz Festival, Summer Fest in Milwaukee, Blue Note in New York (and Milan), Pickathon Music Festival in Oregon and Bar B in Brazil. With his tenacity, energy and versatility, Jake Pinto is making his mark in New York City’s music community and becoming a highly sought after multi-instrumentalist. *** Lesson Details *** Lessons with me are fully catered to your needs as a student. I can provide as much strictness or laid back-ness as the student needs in order to see results. After 3 months you will certainly already be able to play a few songs you love and hopefully already able to freely express something about yourself on the instrument. *** Studio Equipment *** I have a beautiful 7' Grand Piano. It feels amazing and sounds gorgeous. I also have basses, guitars, organs, drumset/percussion and tons of keyboards. *** Travel Equipment *** I have all equipment needed for a lesson although I would prefer the student have his or her selected instrument. *** Specialties *** I play jazz, some classical, funk, pop, afrobeat, rock. I feel confident teaching any style a student might be interested in.
