About Ivy J.
I am a woman with two passions, dance and health. My love of dance began at a very young age. I grew up I dancing in a competitive studio, winning many awards regionally and nationally as well as dancing for my school teams. After high school I began working as a Dance Instructor and performing professionally while earning degrees in Dance and Entrepreneurship. I have also danced for sports teams as well as independent choreographers. Now I can be found dancing for Get Up/ Get Down Dance Company and teaching classes all over San Diego.
Health has not always come as easily to me. Managing my weight has been a struggle for as long as I remember. My first memories of body trouble began when I started dancing competitively. I was very concerned with the way I would look in my costumes and wanted so badly to look more like the smaller, thinner dancers. My eating habits became very unhealthy as a result of my desire to look as thin as possible while dancing. After I stopped competing and started college, the troubles seemed to fade away. However I now had another problem, the pounds kept adding up. At my highest weight I was 20 pounds overweight and miserable. But not only was I overweight, I was sick. I had a fibroid the size of an orange growing in my uterus. My symptoms caused me to lose so much blood that my blood cell count became dangerously low. After a year of hell, the doctors were able to find and remove the fibroid, and within a few months I was back to normal.
While I was sick I felt more out of control of my body than ever and I hated it. I vowed that if I got better I would take care of my body the best I could and become the most healthy version of myself. I am so happy that today I can say I love my body and mean it. I’m so passionate about health that I want to help others become the most healthy versions of themselves as well. I hold an ACE Health Coach certification and am available to coach female clients who want to lose weight and feel great about themselves.
