About Isidora M.
*** Specialties ***
Suzuki Violin Method, college preparatory, chamber music/ensemble playing, jazz/popular standards and improvisation techniques, klezmer music, orchestral audition preparation
As a strings pedagogue, I have ten years of experience teaching students of different ages and skill levels (beginner to advanced/pre-college). I have taught violin at extension programs offered by the University of the Philippines, Western Illinois University, and the University of Wisconsin-Madison. I have taught students ranging from six years old to sixty using a combination of methods such as the Suzuki Violin Method and more traditional methods and literature. In my violin teaching, I first assess students’ needs and personal goals, and work with each individual in creating a plan for their course of study. I find this especially effective when teaching adult learners, whose modes of learning are more ingrained and vary significantly from one student to the next.
I also have a diverse performance profile. I have performed in numerous solo and chamber music recitals internationally and have participated in youth orchestras across Asia and played in several professional orchestras here in the US and in the Philippines. In addition to being a classically trained violinist, I also have experience performing in a variety of musical genres and ensemble traditions including klezmer music, Northeastern Brazilian forró, and Middle Eastern takht music.
