B.M. Cello Performance

Learn the cello with a graduate in cello performance

I have been teaching cello to students of all ages for over six years. I aim to tailor my teaching plans to each student’s unique goals and learning habits. I structure my lessons so that students learn and play what they enjoy, while also building a strong foundation of fundamental cello technique.

    About Isabella P.

I recently graduated with a B.M. in cello performance from the Juilliard School. I have over six years of private teaching experience with beginner and intermediate cellists. I was also the co-founder and former director of the Wilton and Congers Roots of Music Camps, was on the faculty at The Cello Camp in Westport, CT, and taught as a summer volunteer instructor at the Harmony Program in NYC. I have performed as a soloist with ensembles such as The Hartford Symphony, was a National YoungArts Foundation winner, and toured NY and China as a member of Carnegie Hall's National Youth Orchestra of the USA in 2015. In addition to my classical background, I enjoy teaching and arranging pop, rock, R&B, and movie music for myself and my students. I aim to tailor my lesson plans to each student’s unique goals. The methods I use differ based on each person’s learning habits and aspirations for their cello playing. I believe that the cello can be a beneficial addition to anyone’s life, whether it is being played for recreation/therapy, to explore and enjoy great music, or to challenge oneself and build discipline through rigorous practice. I like to use the first few Suzuki books for complete beginners to introduce basic bowing and intonation concepts while building confidence with the cello. With intermediate/more advanced students, I explore various etudes and exercises alongside more advanced pieces to build upon more complex musical and technical ideas.
