About Ian C.
Growing up in the 90s I actually began my musical journey as a drummer. At 11 years old I was in a 3 piece rock band playing tunes by Green Day and Blink 182, opening up for my dads band at summer parties and learning tons of songs. Everything changed one day when my guitar player came over with a brand new Fender Stratocaster Guitar and electric amp. The second he plugged it in and started wailing on those strings I was hooked. From that moment I began teaching myself how to play, got my very own Strat for Christmas in middle school and started spending 3-5 hours a day in the basement learning all the classic songs from the 60's till now.
I graduated from Community College with Honors, but then decided to start working full time doing what I love. I don't regret that at all, though I am working towards going back to school one day and finishing my degree. I am well known as a performer at the local level here in the DMV, and have been teaching lessons for about 10 years.
I have also been heavily involved with playing Music for Dance many years now. I work as a Dance Accompanist for college level and pre-professional companies, providing live music for both Ballet and Modern technique classes. This job also has me running sound for live performances, composing music, and collaborating directly with some of Maryland's top choreographers.
Last but not least, I am an avid singer/songwriter. The first song I wrote was when I was 12 years old- a lullaby for my baby sister. I love being a guitar player, and love teaching! Look forward to hearing from you :)

Ian has exceeded my expectations as a guitar instructor. The way he is able to break things down into easy and simple steps has been extremely helpful for me. Because of Ian, my guitar is no longer collecting dust or locked in a closet. I look forward to learning the full spectrum of guitar, and I highly recommend Ian if you are serious about having fun and developing quality guitar skills. Mike B
