I have seen Hollyn teach students from age 4 to 22. She is unfailingly respectful and always has the student's best interest in mind. She takes a holistic approach and does identifies mental AND physical issues that may need corrected for optimal achievement to occur, and then she helps the student fix them in a positive and productive way. She is particularly skilled with dealing with performing anxiety or physical pain while playing and will soon help the student overcome any such problems. She has a great personality and sense of humor and the lessons are never boring, never repetitive. She has a great training in both musicianship/performance and pedagogy.

Hollyn is a fantastic instructor. I’m always so impressed with the variety of exercises she walks my son through in a 30 minute lesson. She includes ear training, sight reading, the mastery of scales, and practicing a new piece of music all in one lesson. She is extremely patient and kind and gently helps my son through frustrating moments when his abilities are being stretched and strengthened. My son now has about 8 polished songs to play for friends and family and I could not possibly be more pleased.

Hollyn is an exceptionally bright, engaging, creative, kind and generous music educator. Her approach to trumpet teaching is one of personal empowerment--meeting each student where they are, helping them find their voice and guiding them to engage with the discipline of learning to play music that they love. As a professional trumpeter myself, I recommend Hollyn as a teacher for students of all levels, but feel like she has a unique talent for working with younger students starting their trumpet playing journey!
