Learn Piano / Music Production / Music Theory from an experienced Composer/Producer

My passion for teaching music is rooted in my strong belief that a number of meaningful, creative paths can be reached through a multi-faceted appreciation of the art form. The piano is such an effective vehicle through which to learn to play many different styles, to compose/produce, to respect the role of other instruments in an ensemble, and to understand music theory. Furthermore, in my opinion, this process is most exciting when it allows for students to begin to recognize parallel techniques, forms, sensations, and emotions present in other artistic disciplines and experiences in life. Without question, I owe my wide range of musical tools (performing, composing, producing, and arranging) in many different communities (Boston, Seoul, Cape Town, and New York) to the firm foundation that my many fantastic teachers afforded me over the years. This exchange has inspired me to pay it forward to the best of my ability. And so, my supreme hope is that I equip my students with such a deep and versatile musical intelligence that they may flexibly discover their own creative pursuits.

    About Henry B.

Greetings! I am a Nord-certified artist whose musical perspective has been shaped by many years of diverse, creative experiences around the world. Starting in 2011, I began studying at Berklee College of Music until joining hip hop artist Hoodie Allen’s national American tour playing keyboards. On tour, the band opened for Kendrick Lamar, was joined by G-Eazy, and performed at venues such as Roseland, El Rey Theatre, and multiple Houses of Blues throughout the country. Soon thereafter, I moved to Seoul in 2013, deciding to further deepen the positive exposures to Korean culture I received from my Korean bandmates while leading our band, “Enter Autumn,” at Berklee. In Korea, I became the first foreigner to have his or her music and music videos released by Stone Entertainment (formerly CJ E&M), one of Korea’s largest Kpop and entertainment companies. After a few years I relocated back to the states in 2016 and moved to New York, where I began producing and composing both independently and at Electric Lady Studios for various artists such as Taj Mahal’s daughter, Deva Mahal. In addition to scoring various South African/South Korean/British/American short films while living in New York, I went on to compose/produce/arrange the dark-funk soundtrack for a music film, “They Say It’s Wonderful,” (shot in Cape Town) which features a combination of original soundtrack compositions and drastically re-imagined interpretations of show tunes from The Golden Age of Broadway. This project caught the attention of Baz Luhrmann (Moulin Rouge, The Great Gatsby, Romeo + Juliet) and Amanda Ghost (Beyonce, Florence + the Machine, Shakira), leading to our joint collaboration on a "Moulin Rouge The Musical" mega-mix promotional track. Most recently, I produced, composed, engineered, and vocalized a 29-minute operatic concept album, “Ongoing Matter,” whose sound is a hybrid of upbeat-offbeat pop and industrial funk. Every word and phrase of the album's lyrics appear in The Mueller Report and a feature article was written up in Billboard in fall of 2020.
