Typically focusing on the Drum-set and Snare Drum when teaching, I also teach the Djembe drum for use in acoustic band settings.  I can do this because I've been playing in church and also in cover-bands with full drum-set and percussion kit formats for over 10 years.  My students learn how to think through the material (I use Mel Bay mostly) and eventually teach themselves, so they can utilize all the fantastic drumming literature there is out there, and enjoy the instrument for life!

Hello there!  My name is Heath.  I've been teaching drums for five years now and I love it.  I've also been playing professionally for over a decade, mostly in Houston cover bands which incorporate all styles of music, and also at my church (St. John the Divine).  I'm extremely blessed to teach and to play music for a living!  My style of teaching is broad.  I like to play pieces and exercises with my students in order to create a more visceral and intuitive learning experience.  Reading and timing is also very important, and I want to give my students the tools to continue their learning and fun with many drumming books and other materials for life.  Let's have some fun and learn together!

Heath is the best percussionist instructor I know! He was able to not only show me a deeper appreciation for percussion and drums, but also how well a good percussionist can keep the rhythm flowing. I have learned as much from him as I have put forth the effort to learn. The only complaint I have is my own hectic schedule.

Heath is a masterful teacher.  He has the ability to listen and understand where I am in my learning curve and adjust his lessons to my skill level.. In few short months I have learned more from him than I have accomplished in years on my own. I would highly recommend this instructor to anyone serious about improving their skills.

Heath is an incredible instructor who really takes the time to get to know your child and figure out what will motivate your child to learn.    He is not just a great teacher but also a great mentor.     He teaches the mechanics of drums, how to read the notes, but also incorporates fun songs and rhythms for the student to learn.    He is playful and fun and my son LOVES when "Mr Heath" comes to do a lesson.    He is a really gifted teacher and musician.
