I am a Piano Performance major at The University of Akron. I currently study with Philip Thomson, and my past teachers include Laura Silverman, Douglas Hicks, and the late Eugene Mancini. I have experience teaching six-year-olds, retirees, and those in between. I am patient and encouraging.
I am available to teach in the student's home or online.
Piano studies overview:
You can play what you can hear. I see that students have a well-rounded approach towards musicianship and playing. Lessons should include theory, ear training, etc. to ensure that students understand what they are playing.
Beginning students might start with a method such as the well-known 'Piano Adventures' by Faber and Faber. More advanced students will work on progressively more demanding literature.
In a piano lesson, we will cover many different aspects of playing. The student and I will analyze a new piece of music in various ways while coming up with an idea of how it sounds. I will play the piece and make practice suggestions. The student will play prepared pieces, and I will make suggestions. I value spontaneity.
My adult students say I am insightful.
I play the music for the service. I have substituted at several churches before starting at East Market St.
Extremely dedicated, patient and caring teacher.
