Fred holds a bachelors degree in Music Education from Westminster Choir College, one of the nations most prestigious music schools, and a masters degree in Vocal Performance from East Carolina University. He has ten years of experience teaching voice and piano, and is certified in Dalcrose, Orff, 4-MAT and Kodaly teaching methods. His teaching experience includes running a studio of 20 students in Chapel Hill, NC, and as a faculty voice teacher at The Ravenscroft School in Raleigh, NC. He enjoys working with students of all ages to help them develop a love of music while reaching their full potential.
In addition to being an experienced teacher, Fred is also an accomplished performer, and he uses his experience to help his students achieve their goals. In his home state of North Carolina, he starred in two productions by Triangle Opera Studios. In 2010, he was featured in the popular operatic double-bill Cavalleria Rusticana and Pagliacci. He appeared in the company’s Don Giovanni as the infamous libertine’s comical side-kick, Leporello. He also sang the role of Morales in Capitol Opera’s Carmen. Most recently, he starred as Figaro in the Barber of Seville with both Wyckoff Opera Company and Washington Heights Opera Company. He has also performed in several prominent music festivals, including starring as Don Alfonso in a production of Mozart’s Cosi fan tutte at the Opera Theater and Music Festival of Lucca. And for Spoleto’s Vocal Arts Symposium, he starred in the vocally taxing role of Enrico in Lucia di Lammermoor. Fred has also appeared in numerous opera concerts, Broadway musical reviews and Lieder recitals across the state and regularly contributes his talents to various fundraising events and music education outreach programs.

Fred is a top notch teacher
I took voice lessons with Fred for about 2 years when I was 11 years old. I remember always looking forward to my lessons with him. He was not only a great voice teacher, but such a kind soul. He always knew what I needed on any given day, and would tailor my lessons for that. Lessons with him were always a highlight of my week. Aside from his kindness and relaxed energy, he has a unique creativity in teaching voice. He is extremely keyed in to each individual's vocal quality and tailors his exercises for them. I would highly recommend taking lessons with Fred.

Deep understanding of singing
I took lessons with Fred Rice for one year, and it was perfect for a beginning vocalist. I could tell that Fred understood every aspect of what he taught me, and communicated those ideas in an accessible fashion. I highly recommend Fred for vocalists at any level; I personally guarantee that you will learn from him and get more than your money's worth.

Working with Fred was truly rewarding.
I was a student of Fred's for a year and I found it to be a truly wonderful, positive experience.
Fred learned what was important for me as a singer and focused on my voice as an individual.
More importantly, working with Fred was a joy. We had fun and I never stopped learning.
