As I had started to play the bass when I was 13 I quickly became a musical sponge and ceased every opportunity I had to play music every day. I played in garage bands with my friends and even jazz gigs with my father's co-workers. I spent a solid 5 years playing with as many local musicians as I could in my small Alaskan town. By 18 I had attended two years in the University's music Academy and been promoted to a mentor position. A year later I decided to pursue my music career in Los Angeles and educate myself at a Bachelor level at Musicians Institute. After 3 years of intense study and graduation I have played with many artists who have had songs placed on TV and film, recorded with Grammy-award winning names, and constantly on call for around the city. I am very excited to be a part of this team so I can spread my knowledge, work with up and coming talent, and grow along with the students I will teach. *** Lesson Details *** My number one priority is to teach my students to be musicians. Having a strong musical awareness helps you bring so much more to the table. My teaching consists of intense exercises on technique, scales, arpeggios, grooves, and songs. On the other side I love to incorporate notation reading, music theory, and ear training. Any style of music you play I am capable of teaching and I love questions. I have several books from beginner to advanced levels and can give you copies of lesson handouts. I approach my lessons enthusiastically but want to see the student learn how to practice effectively. Within 3-6 months I want to be able to see my students will have exceptional improvements with their instrument, applied fundamentals of reading and theory to their instrument, and one or two solo pieces to perform. *** Studio Equipment *** Fender Jazz Bass 4 string Lakland Jazz Bass 5 string Ibanez Roadgear 4 string Markbass 4x10 with Markbass Little Mark Tube Head Fender Frontman 15B ProLine Music Stand *** Travel Equipment *** I will provide my bass, an amp, music stand, loose notation paper, and books. I would expect my student to provide their own instrument and an amp. I can plug two basses into my amp at once so it is okay if the student isn't able to provide one. *** Specialties *** What I focus on in lessons is teaching the student to have abilities not only in the craft of their instrument, but a strong musical awareness and maturity. What methods I will include in my lesson is playing technique, fretboard and arpeggio studies, harmony studies with and without their instrument, sheet music reading and sight reading, ear training, performing, gear and basic equipment knowledge, basic repair knowledge, and music theory.

    Experience

    Teacher Assistant

    Jan, 2013 - Present

    Musicians Institute

I spend all day backing up vocalists, guitar players, drummers and students in the audio engineering program with my bass playing. I play in many "TA Bands" and offer extra tips, advice and overall practicality to students to strengthen their musicianship.
