I am a professional singer, specializing in opera, musical theater, chamber and choral music! Although my personal focus is classical music, my teaching is not limited to one genre and I have worked extensively with students in contemporary styles.
My singing career keeps me traveling a lot, so I teach lessons online so that I can be sure to be available to my students consistently! Recent performances have included my solo debut with the Boston Pops in the symphonic premiere of the show "Sondheim on Sondheim," as well as a performance of David Lang's "just" at the Tanglewood Festival of Contemporary Music that was hailed "a beautiful performance" by the New York Times. I sing with several ensembles, including GRAMMY-Award winning Conspirare (Austin, TX), the Vocal Arts Ensemble (Cincinnati, OH), and Coro Volante, an ensemble dedicated to recording and performing the works of living composers. Coro Volante's debut recording is due out later this year on the Ablaze record label. In Spring 2018, I will be based in Indianapolis as a resident artist with Indianapolis Opera.
I received my Bachelor's degree in Voice from the Eastman School of Music (Rochester, NY), and hold my Master's degree in Voice from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. I am due to receive my Doctorate in Voice, also from the Cincinnati College-Conservatory, in April 2018. I have served as faculty member at Wittenberg University, teaching Voice and directing Opera Studio, as well as the Cincinnati School of Music and the Queen City Music Studio.
In lessons, you can expect a tailored approach that helps you reach your individual goals. I believe that a solid technical base is essential to keep you singing healthily for a lifetime, so we will spend half the lesson time on the basics of alignment, breath, phonation, diction and style. The second half of lessons is dedicated to working on repertoire of your choice! You can choose the songs, or I am happy to make suggestions.
Singing is the most wonderful way of expressing yourself, and I have dedicated my life to exploring my own voice as well as leading others in their own vocal journeys. I would be honored to help you find your voice!

Fotina really worked hard to help me find my most mature and full voice. She was incredibly good at hearing exactly what was happening in my body and was able to quickly remedy it with some warm-ups and different exercises. She’s outstanding!!
While taking lessons with Fotina, I gained valuable knowledge and experience on how to use my voice in multiple aspects (support, tone, lyricism and etc). She always goes into each lesson ready to give 110% and encourages you give that same energy and effort towards the music. This has made me an overall better musician far past what I expected for myself and helped me find new goals to strive on.+ Read More
I only worked with Fotina for one semester at Wittenberg University but it was fantastic. She is very nice and patient and knows lots of techniques to help strengthen your voice.
I had the pleasure of taking voice lessons from Fotina for three years at the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music. She encouraged me to sing in many different styles, which made our lessons both fun and challenging. She made me very aware of how my voice and body work together, so I developed a better understanding of the physical aspect of singing.
Fotina was always willing to answer questions and go the extra mile to make sure I was understanding. She can easily adapt to the learning styles of each of her students, and can form lessons around them. For example, she suggested I record our lessons on my phone so when I was practicing I could go back and listen to what we did. This helped me to retain what I was learning and allowed me to hear how I sounded in a lesson.
I would recommend Fotina to anyone. No matter your resume, you will learn a lot from her. She is a fantastic teacher, who is always eager and supportive. She is the best!
From vocal technique to performance skill, the lessons I learned from Fotina have served me long past our time together.
Fotina really made me find the voice I never realized I had.
I've never taken singing lessons before, but I really enjoyed my time with Fotina. We did a lot of breathing exercises that really helped me grasp how to sing correctly, and she was very patient and warm to me in every lesson. I'd take lessons with her again if I had the chance, and definitely plan to keep maintaining my voice with the techniques I've been taught here (until I can take voice lessons again!). In other words, I would highly recommend this instructor to any level of student.+ Read More
Definitely learned a lot about different breathing techniques along with how to produce sound and where it should be to be effective. First voice instructor that I have ever had and I was very pleased.
Fotina is wonderful! My voice has improved an incredible amount since I started studying with her. She is excellent about working with students to make them understand the physicality of singing. She describes techniques in a way that are easy to understand and apply and she often "checks in" while singing so the student can explain what their body was doing and internalize that feeling. Excellent teacher who is accommodating and easy to work with.+ Read More
