My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for churches and weddings, and love teaching.
I began teaching beginner to advanced Violin and Viola in April of 2001 in NC. I moved to California in the fall of 2008. Since moving to California I have extended my teaching to beginner Piano and Cello also. I have taught students ages 3 to 87 how to play and enjoy music on a personal level. My experience includes leading sectionals for middle school orchestra, organizing and instructing small ensembles, and organizing student recitals. Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase the students' growth and abilities, and to provide an opportunity to give back to family and friends whose sacrifices and support enable the students to succeed.
Since moving to Georgia in 2018 I was able to keep some of my online students as well as begin again building my studio base here from home. It has been my pleasure to assist one of my neighbors in his once a month church service at the nearby nursing home. It has been an honor to involve my students in this also by taking them to play with me on more then a couple occasions before Covid-19 closed things down. It has been a joy and a blessing to find ways in our community to share our talents even during Covid.
I teach because I love music and I believe God has given me a gift. Playing and teaching help me to use my talent for His glory. I love working with people and I love how music enables people of all ages to open up and express themselves in a positive way, no matter what life throws their way. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors.
My teaching philosophy is to always have fun while learning, to set attainable goals for the student, to learn through encouragement and discipline, and to help students come to love music on a personal level. I focus on the character of each student and their goals and desires to see that the student and/or parents are satisfied. Teaching is a privilege for me that I do not take for granted.
*** Lesson Details ***
I offer half hour, forty-five minute, sixty minute lessons, or longer on a weekly basis, and very rarely offer bi-weekly lessons. My lessons begin with the fundamentals of music. I believe a firm foundation in rhythm and reading is important because a student may switch musical instruments one day and the basics are universal and necessary. I have a deep love and appreciation for music which I hope to instill in my students as well. I am strict in the sense that I like students to polish their pieces before moving on. I like to keep them focused on playing well, not just playing.
A typical lesson will begin with scales to warm up, a review of the previous week's material, and a new assignment. Students will memorize pieces, be proficient in scales and rhythms, and all the while laughing and having a great time. I am known with my students for my creative analogies and flexibility to try new things in order to adapt to the students strengths and weaknesses. My students look forward to coming to their lesson, and that is very rewarding as a teacher.
I primarily use the Suzuki method for Violin and Viola, because it offers progressive steps to mastering technique, style, and musicality. My curriculum includes the use of Winning Rhythms, Wohlfahrt studies, All for Strings Theory, Essentials for Strings, and many more beginner and advanced studies; including shifting and double stops.
I love music and I love working with people; teaching is just icing on the cake. I look forward to helping you achieve your goals and discover your talents and I hope we can learn together. I look forward to meeting you!
*** Studio Equipment ***
Music Stand and Keyboard
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to have their instrument, and necessary accessories ie: rosin, shoulder rest, strings, books, and music stand.
*** Specialties ***
I teach Music on Violin, Viola, and Piano, as well as beginner cello. I am very creative in my teaching methods, though I use the Suzuki Method primarily for string instruments. I believe learning should be fun. I teach all the fundamentals of music from the beginning: counting rhythm, scales, reading music, theory.

Fantastic instruction. Patient, clear, and ensured she was meeting my daughter where she is at. Significantly more productive class times compared with our last in person teacher.

Great experience! Erin is engaging when teaching and amazing with my daughter. It was her first lesson and I'm so glad we found Erin to begin this violin journey with!

Erin is fabulous! She is very patient and kind and is always willing to help out. Great teacher, even from across the country!

Erin is very patient and full of great ideas. She has helped me tremendously in only a few short lessons.

Excellent and personable instructor that is able to quickly explain and teach the basics to a beginner!

Great instructor and very patient

Great start to my daughter's new instrument!

Excellent first lesson! Erin is upbeat, and clearly knowledgeable. I think my daughter will really grow here.

My first lesson was great and I'm looking forward to practice and be a better violinist with erin.

Erin has been helping my daughter to really make a beautiful sound, fixing her bad habits from a previous teacher, and teaching her how to tune and care for her violin on her own.

So patient with my 3 year old son. The curriculum was well suited for a 3 year old boy!!

Had a great first lesson and looking forward to more.

I take both intermediate violin and beginner cello online with Erin. She's fantastic! She's taught me lots of new things and keeps things fun. I also appreciate that she treats me like an intelligent adult, even when I am struggling with things, instead of like a young child. I recommend Erin's help to all ages and skill levels!

Erin is a delightful teacher and really connects well with kids (My daughter is 7). We've had other instructors in the past and what I appreciate about Erin is that she spends a lot of time focusing on the fundamentals. This has been invaluable for my daughter. Her skills have advanced considerably under Erin's tutelage. Highly recommended violin instructor.

Erin is a wonderful teacher! I started taking lessons with her as a beginner and after just a few months I've come along way. Learning under Erin I feel confident I’m learning correctly and the full scope of my instrument. She has a great studio with all the tools, music and instruments making learning very easy and fun. She has also been very accommodating with my busy work/practice schedule. I would highly recommend Erin as a teacher!

Erin is a terrific teacher. She is so good with children. She is patient and kind. My granddaughter has made amazing progress with the violin--and she takes her lessons long distance via Skype!

Erin has been a wonderful teacher. She's extremely knowledgeable and is able to pass that knowledge on in clear language and examples. Erin has a positive caring personality that makes learning enjoyable. She's also very understanding when changes in the my schedule are needed. I'm so glad I found her!

I started taking lessons from Erin a little over 3 years ago. I am an adult learner and have aspirations of playing in an orchestra. I now play in two. Thanks Erin. I have recommended to friends.

Everything went well. Just getting started and had a couple of starting issues with the violin but other than that, good!

Erin is a wonderful violin instructor. My 9-year-old completely changes her attitude about her violin when Erin calls for class. My daughter is one of those who wants to be really good at the violin, but not practice much. Erin is changing that. She is a joy to work with. We are back and forth to China during the year and Erin has been amazing to accommodate our class times to our 15-hour time change. We are blessed to have found Erin. I highly recommend her!

Easy to work with, friendly, patient ,and knowledgeable,

Erin is a great teacher! She believes her students can rise to the occasion. She's very motivating and patient which has helped my daughter greatly.

Erin was a great teacher! She challenged me to be better every lesson, and her teaching style for someone who had never played an instrument before was great!

Great teacher, very nice and helpful.

I am an adult learner and wanted a teacher that did not treat me like a child. Erin is a great teacher and treats me like an adult. She helps me to attain my goals and works at my pace. She encourages me especially when I don't think I can do a particular piece or perform at a recital. I know she can take me through to any level I want to accomplish on the violin.

Erin is an awesome teacher. Jazmin, my daughter, has been playing cello for almost 2 years and was having a rough time, losing interest and motivation.Erin was of tremendous help. She immediately connected with my daughter, who needed a little push to keep going after we moved to a rural area and she left her friends behind, got her motivated again to start playing and now she is back at school where she will be part of the orchestra once again. Thank you very much for all your help,Erin!

She is a great teacher. She is very patient and clear. She is well-prepared and organized. She is very good at what she does.
Excellent Teacher and wonderful person
Erin is a great teacher. She's helpful, encouraging and has many different methods for getting an idea across.
She's also a great person. I have a few health issues that often create scheduling issues. She's always very patient with that aspect.
Extremly nice and very helpful
Erin is very nice and is always very helpful throught the lesson and during the week in between lessons whenever im stuck on something I can just send her an email and she will help me with it,
Erin is a great violin teacher for my son!
At first, I was skeptical if my son could actually learn violin on skype. Erin proved that it can work very well. She helped my son to improve the techniques and was strict about his posture (much needed!). Erin was very encouraging and patient with my son. She always wrote the post-lesson notes, which was super helpful to keep my son focused on the areas for practice.
When my son decided that he wasn't interested in violin any more, Erin encouraged him, and offered good advice for me too. I really appreciate Erin's professionalism and positive attitude!
My granddaughter takes lessons on Skype.
My granddaughter, now 7, has been taking violin lessons with Erin C. on Skype for about a year now. We couldn't be more pleased with the everything about the program. Erin is a wonderful teacher who really knows how to talk to kids and encourage them. Skype is no impediment.
Wonderful Teacher
Erin thank you for teaching my Daughter violin, she is improving every week! We are so happy we found you.
I was dubious about taking lessons over Skype, but Eric has proven how wonderful it can be. My granddaughter is learning so much -- and it's just as
Erin is an excellent Violin teacher for my granddaughter. She really knows how to talk to and teach kids. It doesn't matter that she's in San Diego and we're in New York, it's just as though Erin is right in the room with us.
Erin's the best!
Even though my girls have been playing for two+ years she's teaching them things they haven't learned and probably won't in a school setting. I can't believe how patient, thorough and skilled she is! My girls will now learn better and have a better understanding not just of their instruments but also for music as a whole. I can't believe we got such an amazing teacher and I'm very glad my girls will learn from the best around!
Erin is a great teacher with sound technique and helpful patience.
Ms Culp has been helpful in all aspects. Our 5 year old student requires a good deal of patience and understanding. She has been creative and flexible when necessary.
