I'm lead vocalist, lead guitarist & songwriter for a jazz/future soul band that is currently the house band for Gallery 992. I graduated from Clayton County Fine Arts Magnet High School, and am currently teaching lessons to students ranging in ability from beginner to intermediate. My experience and training makes learning the beauty of music fun and exciting.
Currently, I run a studio producing for other artists' creative projects, play for an active jazz band and am a songwriter under BMI. I spend much of my time writing and recording for my projects and other artists. My songs have been featured on short films and artist EPs.
I teach students in my home teaching studio in Atlanta,Georgia where we can vibe out and build with each other. I work with guitarists, pianists, horn players, producers, songwriters, engineers, singers and rappers with different skills and different goals.
I regularly teach: Jazz, Alternative, Rock, Soul, R&B, Blues, Hip-Hop, Pop, Indie Rock and Funk
We play a jazz house set at the art Gallery 992, playing unlimited genres, sometimes welcoming other musicians from their own bands. After the house set, we open up a jam session for any musicians/vocalists who want to get on stage.
The course examines the tools available to you, all revolving around the essential concept of prosody. I learned to use tools to enhance my message—to work compositionally at the same time developing my ideas.
You work both lyrically and musically, though musically it’s not necessary that you either read music or play an instrument. I played and recorded musical responses to the assignments.
My learning experience with Erick has been a blessing
Erik is wonderful working with his students. He has patience and a positive attitude. It also helps he is a great musician. I would definitely recommend him in the future.
Really knows his stuff! Seemingly endless ideas spanning from multiple perspectives with a flair for emotionally-driven motifs, means there's a ton to learn from him.
I'm mostly grateful for his patience, as I often struggle with new material.
I came into my lesson not knowing what to expect. To my surpise I came leaving with a lot, leaving me very inspired to pick up my guitar.
We went over core fudementals of the instrument and the spirit of the guitar; it being a fundamental vehicle to expression that has helped me tap into the the creative essence and well as a good foundation of form, technique, theory, and concepts to continually work on and reinvent.
Through our lessons I find a lot of the information usable in so many facets of life that it has way change the process of learning and creating in a way I’m more self sustaining with the desire so see what other concepts I can learn.
Whether you’re into Jazz, Rock, RnB, Blues, or Rap I find the teacher has a great foundation in a lot of these vast styles having you leave feeling that you can tap into these different styles, diving into their understanding as well there their authenticity. You can learn anything from chords, scales, cover, writing, theory, technique, or improvisation. You’ll definitely leave feeling empowered.
I would definitely recommend.
