I teach lessons and courses in music theory, composition, musicology, and related fields. I am an active composer (ASCAP), arranger, and public lecturer, among many other hats I wear. My approach to teaching is to create a relaxed, fun, and conversational atmosphere for the students, meet each student at their level, and work towards helping them reach their musical goals and expand their musical horizons. I started tutoring while still an undergraduate at Mannes College of Music, and began serving on my first faculty position before I graduated. I am currently on the faculties at Queens College (CUNY)—where I was awarded the college's "Presidential Award for Excellence in Teaching"—Mannes College of Music's Preparatory Division, and Juilliard's MAP program. I have also served as a music theory department head at various institutions. I hold degrees from the University at Buffalo (Ph.D.), Queens College (M.A.), and Mannes College of Music (B.M.). I received the "Graduating Master's Award" from Queens College. I have given dozens of public lectures on a wide range of subjects, including: "Sophisticated Pop Music," "Rachmaninoff's Choral Music," "Bach and the Art of Imitation," "Do You Know What You Like About Music?" "The Music of Florence Price," "Schubert's 'Erlkönig'," "Bartók's Chamber Music," and "Gilbert and Sullivan's 'Yeomen of the Guard'," among many others. I've given lecture-series courses on Mahler, Program and Incidental Music of the 19th century, Beethoven's Symphonies, and American Masters of Song. I have conducted seminar courses on the Music of Pete Townshend, British Rock Music of the 1960s, and Led Zeppelin. I would be delighted to join you on your musical journey and share the joy that music, and music study, brings.

Eric is truly one of the best teachers I have ever had. The knowledge that I gained in his courses far surpassed what was mandatory. Not only is he a brilliant musician and theorist with an encyclopedic brain, but he also is one of the kindest people I have ever met. I highly recommend Eric to anyone interested in music theory, ear training, or music history.

Eric is an absolutely magnificent educator and consummate musician. His approach to students with kindness, an open mind, and basically unlimited patience is just the beginning. He is an encouraging and thoughtful professor in every aspect. Not only was he the first to introduce me to proper vocal technique and sight singing in general, he was also the teacher who listened the most (to my at the time awful singing). Eric is amongst the best of the best. The kind of person you want in your Rolodex. His method is superb. You cannot go wrong if he is your teacher.

Dr. C was my theory and ear training professor during my undergraduate studies and was not only a fabulous teacher, ensuring each student grasped the information, but he also is such a caring individual. He was also FUN. I am 3 music degrees in, and am still recalling things he taught me. Worth studying with!
