Overview

I provide a fun, supportive and creative environment for my students, exploring music with enthusiasm and finding new ways of approaching the voice to facilitate a healthy technique.

I teach students of all ages and levels, and all musical genres. I believe that in order to sing any kind of repertoire (whether it be rock or opera), you first need to understand and work on the fundamental principles of singing; body alignment, breath support and a clear, resonant tone.

Originally from Gainesville, Florida, I started studying piano at the age of 6 and then started voice lessons around the age of 8. I started mainly with musical theater and pop music, and it wasn't until high school that I left Gainesville to pursue a more rigorous arts education at Interlochen Arts Academy. There, I discovered my love for opera and classical music, and then went on to receive my Bachelor of Music from Oberlin Conservatory, and my Master of Music from San Francisco Conservatory.

Studying and performing music has been such an integral part of my life, and I have a lot of enthusiasm and energy to teach aspiring musicians!

My daughter loves working with Emily! I asked to see her apt and meet her before starting lessons and she was very accommodating. I highly recommend her.

Emily is an amazing teacher. She is super supportive and very knowledgeable. She has helped me open up my voice so much. I love how she structures her lessons--we do exercises in the beginning and then we work on musical and acting details in my songs in the second half. She challenges me but is encouraging all the while. She also has a great way of keeping things simple and straight forward. I would recommend her to anyone who would like to find more ease and enjoyment in singing!
