About Emily H.
Born in southeastern Wisconsin, I began playing horn at the age of ten. For the past five summers, I have been a member of the Utah Festival Opera and Musical Theatre Company in Logan, Utah. In the summer of 2013, I was in the pit orchestra for the Ohio Light Opera Company. My other festival activities include the Atlantic Music Festival (2012 orchestral fellow), the Music Academy of the West, and the Aspen Music Festival (2010 brass quintet fellow). As an orchestral musician, I have appeared with the North Carolina Symphony, the Charlotte Symphony, the Virginia Symphony, the Boise Philharmonic, the Glens Falls Symphony, Cape Ann Symphony, Thousand Oaks Philharmonic, the Los Angeles Jewish Symphony, the American Youth Symphony, and the Orquesta de Baja (Tijuana, MX). I have been a private horn instructor for fourteen years and a private piano instructor for nine years.
While living in the Midwest, I developed a love of orchestral horn playing. I earned my bachelor’s degree in horn performance from the Eastman School of Music in Rochester, New York. I earned my master’s degree in horn performance at the University of Southern California. Currently I live in Raleigh, NC.
My other interests include swimming, reading, and baking.

I worked as a substitute teacher for middle and high school band classes. During the school day, I followed the regular band teacher's lesson plan, including directing the band through their pieces.
