About Elliott A.

I am a classically trained singer living, working, and teaching in NYC. I have a degree in vocal performance from The University of Maryland at College Park. While in the D.C. Metro area I performed as a chorister and soloist at The National Shrine, Metropolitan A.M.E Church, and the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts. My exposure to a wide range of music, from baroque to contemporary gospel and musical theater, has strongly influenced my teaching. My goal is always to help a student develop their own understanding and experience of singing in a way that is fun, interactive, and personal while also progressively building a strong technique.
*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are generally split between technical work/ warm-ups and repertoire. I like to adapt my concepts to a students individual personality and capability, in that sense I am flexible about the approach taken to achieve optimal results. Every singer thinks and communicates differently and I see it as my job to figure out what will work best for you. I think that a foundation in a classical approach gives students the biggest toolkit which to work. Once the fundamentals are firmly established, that singer then has the ability to approach any style of music in a way that is healthy and secure.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Programmable Digital Piano and Recording Equipment.
*** Specialties ***
The approach I take to the voice is based in the tradition of classical bel canto singing. It is always my goal to help students understand how to use their breath and body to produce sound that is free of tension, optimal, and beautiful.

Elliott is a very effective teacher. I always trust Elliott's ear and he has helped bring out a truer sound inside of me that I've never experienced before. I trained in musical theater and have sang for a long time, Elliott has greatly helped me connect with my singing instrument in an open, technical, and healthy approach. Very grateful. Thank you!
