    About Elliott S.

Hello there! My name is Elliott Stanger and I currently reside in Greensboro, North Carolina. I am the principal horn in the Durham Symphony and I am on the music faculty at Mitchell Community College. I have also performed with the North Carolina Symphony, Charlotte Symphony, Greensboro Symphony, Raleigh Symphony, North Carolina Brass Band, Greensboro Opera, and annual productions at the Triad Stage and Carolina Theater. I am currently finishing up my Doctorate of Musical Arts at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro. Several of my students have won college scholarships, as well as positions in local honor bands and youth symphonies. Lessons with me will be engaging, informative, and fun. My favorite moment while teaching is watching a student light up when they finally get a concept or nail a passage they've been working on. I love talking in metaphors and will often try to use a student's favorite hobby, sport, video game, etc. to find the best possible way to explain a difficult concept or describe exactly what I want them to do. I set clear goals for each lesson and expect the students to try their best to meet them. I don't expect perfection, but I do expect them to put in the effort. No musician will tell you that they "work" their instrument. We practice and play our instrument, just like an athlete practices and plays their sport. Effort is involved, but it doesn't have to be work! I encourage my students to love their instrument, their music-making, and learning, no matter what age or background they come from. I am always available via email or text to communicate with students and parents to ensure that we stay on the same page and know what is expected from one another.
