Learn flute from a professional orchestral and studio flutist with 17+ years experience
My flute studio strives to develop exceptional flute facility, in-depth understanding of Classical music theory, and flute pedagogical methods in every student. Through which, each student subsequently learns behaviors that transcend flute playing, such as perseverance, self-awareness, critical thinking, self-motivation, self-confidence, and goal-setting to name a few.
Elizabeth believes that each student has their own, unique method(s) of learning, and strives to play upon their strengths, creating an innovative learning environment that develops confidence in each individual. She understands that success looks different for each student, and strives to set attainable goals in each weekly lesson to set up each student for success.
The flute pedagogy, or the practice of teaching the flute, that Elizabeth is practiced in includes multi-faceted backgrounds of the American, French, and Eastern-European flute schools. Her main teachers include Denis Bouriakov (principal flutist Los Angeles Philharmonic/UCLA Faculty), Erin Bouriakov (international soloist and former principal flute Seoul Philharmonic/UCLA faculty), Diana Morgan (orchestral musician and teacher), and John Barcellona (pedagogue and flute professor emeritus CSU Long Beach). The American School which represents superb technical facility, the French School which represents beauty of air, phrasing and color, and the Easter-European school of disciplined practice methods and technical development.

Hi! I'm Elizabeth and I'm a professional flutist and teacher based in Southern California.
In my flute studio, I believe in not only in developing talented musicians, but also highly driven, successful human beings. I believe it’s my duty as an educator to not only teach the flute, but to also mentor and guide young musicians to become advantageous members of society.
Students in my studio benefit from highly-tailored and individualistic approaches to flute playing in their lessons, where each and every lesson is taught within the alignment of their own unique learning style, with an emphasis on goal-orientation. Success looks different for every student, and I strive to make each lesson enjoyable and productive for every single one of them.
This type of philosophy allows each student to thrive, building confidence one lesson at a time, developing students’ trust in themselves with each attainable goal that they achieve. These valuable life-skills transfer over to every aspect of personal and professional life, and I seek to highlight that relevance throughout my instruction.
Elizabeth has 10+ years of teaching experience and has taught at many institutions across Southern California. She received her Master of Music degree in Flute Performance from the University of California, Los Angeles and received her Bachelor of Music degree in Flute Performance from California State University, Long Beach.

With confidence, I can say that Elizabeth is by far the best flute teacher I’ve had. Within the past two years that I have taken online lessons from her, she has completed transformed how I play.
Among many things, Elizabeth taught me how to move my air to create a smoother, richer,
and more beautiful sound and about the music
theory behind pieces so that I have greater
expressionistic intention when I play. Equally important, she has taught me how to practice and prepare for auditions.
Within my first six months of working with Elizabeth, I became Principal Flutist of my state’s youth orchestra of which I owe a huge
part to what Elizabeth taught me.
In my lessons, Elizabeth is warm and patient. She employs the perfect combination of
positive feedback and constructive criticism and creates a safe space for me to voice flute (and sometimes non-flute) related concerns.
If you’re looking for someone to lift your
flute playing to the next level, Elizabeth is the one!

I first met Elizabeth when I conducted her through a concerto at CSULB where we were both pursuing degrees. In the near-decade that has followed, Liz has become a trusted teacher and valuable colleague.
For many years, Liz would frequently coach the winds in my youth orchestra, and even taught a few of them privately. I was amazed at the progress they made in such a short time with her. In addition to being a fabulous teacher, she is also a stellar performer whom I've played with on a number of occasions.
I moved to Burlington, VT two years ago and have still utilized Elizabeth as a sectional coach via the web. Even through the computer screen she is incredibly effective. I highly recommend Elizabeth for both in-person and online instruction!
