- Teaches students:
- Ages 5+
- Teaching since:
- July 2002
Note: For those who are reading that awful review from Judith, please know that it is sad to hear how opinionated and hateful someone that cancels all the time and rarely does any work can be, I do not put up with inconsistency and irresponsible behavior, other teachers see students as a paycheck, to me it is important to see progress and joy. I am strict and loving as a Piano teacher should be. As long as you show up and get involved there are never issues. Now my biography:
Started Piano and formal Music instruction at age 10. Joined University of the Americas School of Music in 1997 where he became a Piano student of international Piano authorities such as Daniel Rodriguez, Carmen Badillo and Dr. Misa Ito
Studied Composition, Orchestration, Music Theory, Chorus ensemble and Counterpoint with Dr. Brian Banks,
Studied Advanced Ensemble and Music Theory with Cellist Juan Hermida
Studied Musicology and Music History with Dr. Luisa Vilar Paya, Dean of Humanities at the University of The Americas.
While already working in South Florida as a Music Teacher, he attended Graduate studies at Florida Atlantic University where he studied Piano with Leonid Treer, Edward/Anne Louis Turgeon and also Music Production and Commercial Music with eminent scholar Michael Zager, former producer of Whitney Houston.
I have the best approach and methodology for my students to play free of fear and insecurity.
I'm an adult who had NO fun whatsoever to go to my piano classes due to the fact that Efren has a controlling style approach. All you have to do is listen to what he has to say, you can't get a word in and is condescending. I can't even imagine being a child and having to put up with his bullying.Show More
Efren is a great teacher. He is very patient and knows what he is doing. This is my first time learning piano, I always like to learn how to play but Efren makes me love it. He comes prepared And teaches me soo well and I'm very thankful to have him as my teacher â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸â¤ï¸Show More
Efren is an amazing teacher. He is very patient with my daughter and is really great at getting her to focus. She has made great progress in the time that he has been teaching her!
Able to keep and continue my interest
I have now been taking lessons with Efren for roughly three to four months. After trying out a few other tutors, and having little-to-no musical background, I did not believe that I could learn to play anything in such a short amount of time. My skill seems to increase exponentially with each lesson, and without his unique teaching style, I doubt that I would have come so far, with so few lessons, in such a short amount of time. There is no better Piano educator than he in the South Florida area, and if you want to learn how seriously play a piano, he is the one to choose.
I am not a new piano student, and had other teachers before. Efren is by far the best teacher I had. I have been taking lessons with Efren for about a year, and I noticed a significant improvement in my music skills. He brings a lot of experience, and motivates me to keep learning. He is enthusiastic about his job. I highly recommend him.
He seems to be very gifted in music however doesn't have the patience for younger students who have learned from a teacher the he feels isn't as good as him.
The best piano teacher I have ever had.
Excellent teacher with remarkable communications skill and an exemplary understanding of music and HOW to teach.
Efren has been teaching my young daughters, one daughter had enthusiasm, one was a little shy and hesitant. However, Efren's style, technique and personality has brought them both confidence and reassurance that they both look forward to lessons (and the practice!) that even my younger one now says,"I love piano, I'm good at it!" Very blessed to have met such a talented person who is unselfish in his love for music that he has the patience to want to gift that same talent to others.
Deciding to play piano (again) at age 50+ was one of my goals, and finding the right teacher for lessons key. After 2 months with Efren, I know he's the perfect fit for me. His skills at music theory, piano, and teaching are wonderful. He is engaging, patient, and encouraging. I've not missed a lesson, and gladly decline business dinners to make the lesson, It's MY TIME and spending that hour weekly with Efren is a highlight of my week. My kids (teens) said he looks young, yet I'm experiencing his mature musical soul. Lessons and works are tailored to me which I know he spends effort on outside the lesson time.
Efren is a pro, a terrific musician, and a wonderful instructor, and I hope to count him also as a friend.
Efren is prompt, patient and fully explains the lessons.
When I started classes I knew nothing about piano, today with his kind understanding help of my teacher I am doing well. Looking forward to play in church
He is the best
Efren is a execellent teacher. He teaches with passion. Having no experience and is 57yrs old, learning as fast as Im learning Efren is the best. He is very proffesional and respectful.
Efren is an excellent teacher!!!
A little back story... my son is musically gifted and has had several different teachers over the past few years. Our challenge was that he was getting bored with music/practice and it was starting to become something that he did not like despite his talent.
Efren came for an initial round of trial lessons. He was very clear up front as to the kind of work that he does, what he expects from his students and the kinds of students that he likes working with and I agree with this approach, setting this up clearly is a great first step. Fast forward a month and a half later and Efren has reignited my son's interest in piano, completely changed his willingness do the work and has taken him on a musical journey that is interesting, varied and full of surprises. I've noticed that he also takes the time before the lesson to carefully consider how to coax what his students are capable of, this is priceless.
Efren's abilities as a teacher as a communicator and his encyclopedic knowledge of music are fertile ground for any serious piano students - highly, highly recommend him as a teacher.
