Learn piano from teacher with 30+ years experience
Edith grew up in Belgium, where she started learning flute as a young child. After graduating high school and from the community music school, she studied at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels, where she got performance degrees in flute (First Prize and Higher Diploma – equivalents of Bachelor's and Master's Degrees respectively), as well as in chamber music (First Prize). She also received a Bachelor's equivalent of Solfège/music theory, and studied harmony/four part writing and composition for film. After this, Edith received a full scholarship for graduate studies in the flute studio at Arizona State University, where she received a Master's Degree in Flute Performance in December 1997. Edith also plays piano, violin, viola and cello, and has teaching experience in those instruments as well (beginner and intermediate levels). She is also a composer and published a CD of her original compositions for flute and piano in 1999. She speaks fluent English and Dutch (Flemish), and also speaks French proficiently. Edith has also tutored foreign languages to students in elementary, middle and high school, and was a tutor of English as a Foreign Language, French, German and Social Studies to students in Inter Collegiate Athletics. She succesfully homeschooled her children through middle school, all subjects. Edith has a lot of performance experience on flute and piccolo also, from playing in orchestras as a freelancer, to performing in various chamber music groups for formal events in Brussels, to playing for countless weddings and other events while she lived in Northern California, and performed the Mozart concerto in G as a soloist with a community orchestra (California). She currently lives in the Phoenix, AZ metro with her two adult kids and pets.

Mrs. Winkler has been an amazing teacher for my 16 year old daughter, Cora who has always had an interest in music but has had a lapse in anything musical for a few years. Mrs. Winkler has been kind and patient with her yet firm and so that we have noticed progress in Cora’s playing of the violin. Mrs. Winkler has always been accommodating with lesson time and so easy to work with. We love her!
Edith has been teaching our son cello for the past year. She understands music, technique, and instructing at a level we have ever experienced before. She focuses on the foundation at a very specific level to ensure no bad habits are formed. Edith also flexes and works with our son who prefers to move fast, and yet she has a unique way of slowing him down when she sees he needs to develop something further. Our son would not have fallen in love with the cello without the influence of Edith.
