I taught my first private lesson when I was 17 while completing my undergraduate courses at the Yerevan conservatory in Armenia. I became convinced from the start that any person, of any age, can learn the violin if the teacher is flexible in their approach. After teaching for many years, and performing with the Armenian National Opera House Orchestra, I was lucky enough to come to the United States where I earned my artistic diploma and my Master’s Degree in violin performance (from Syracuse University). Currently, I am a member of the Syracuse Symphoria, Allentown Symphony Orchestra and the Tri City Opera. I also perform frequently with Binghamton Philharmonic. Although my background was centered on the Russian school of violin, I prefer to use a blend of many styles and approaches with my students. After coming to the United States, I studied the English school of violin and took many string pedagogy classes. I became familiar with the Suzuki method and approach and look forward to becoming a certified Suzuki teacher in the near future. *** Lesson Details *** My student’s lessons are tailored to their individual needs. Most often I use Essential Elements and Suzuki for beginners. I also like to incorporate pieces from the Russian book “The Beginner Violinist”. Wohlfahrt and Kaiser etudes follow while students enter the Suzuki book 2 and 3 levels. I also help students to learn orchestra music and help them to prepare for auditions and competitions. My advanced students have worked on concertos such as Bruch, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, Sibelius, and Khachaturian. The most important things for me when teaching a student is that they develop a natural and comfortable posture with their violin and that playing their violin becomes fun and enjoyable for them. Whether you are looking to audition for a music conservatory, or would like to learn the basics of violin for fun, I would love to share my knowledge and experience with you to help you reach your goals. *** Travel Equipment *** I expect students provide music stands, instruments and literature *** Specialties *** Russian School, Galamian School, Suzuki method
