About Dustin B.

My name is Dustin B.
I've been playing and teaching music for the majority of my life, and I love it :) In fact, I cannot imagine what life would be like without music.
I received my first instrument (a guitar) as a Christmas present when I was only nine years old. My life was forever changed that day, and I can still remember the first couple of guitar lessons that my dad gave me over the weeks that followed.
After thousands of hours of playing instruments, years of private lessons, and a professional music education from Pacific Lutheran University, I found that sharing the gift of music with others was my greatest talent.
I spend most of my days composing, recording, producing and teaching music (in the greater Seattle area), with much of the work performed in my Tacoma-area studio.
In 2011, my band (The BGP) had some global exposure from our appearance on NBC's America's Got Talent. This has led to some really neat opportunities for publishing our music and networking on a national level. The BGP travels on a few small tours around the nation each year. The majority of our performances consist of college showcases and club shows.
As much as I love performing music, I have to admit that I enjoy teaching music a little bit more! It's those "Ah hah" moments that we all have on our musical journey that give me the biggest reward as a musical mentor. And helping others to experience those moments is why I love teaching music.
*** Lesson Details ***
My style of teaching is based primarily on my experience as a professional musician.
We will set some goals together, select a few of your favorite songs, and discover a lesson plan that will help you achieve every musical goal that you set.
I usually ask *new* students to give yourself a couple of months to learn some of the musical techniques involved with learning a new instrument; and then (as soon as possible), we will begin learning the music that you want to play!
I have a strong background in understanding "how music works" and how concepts of music theory can be used practically (and easily) as you begin learning the music you love.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Upright piano, 2 keyboards, electric/acoustic guitars, ukuleles, bass guitars, banjo, violin, seating available, street parking.
*** Specialties ***
Beginners: I will help you increase your comfort and confidence when learning the instrument, and help eliminate any nerves in order to maximize your growth as a musician.
Intermediate Level Students: Take your talent from good to great!
Advancing Students: Get the feedback you need to really go pro. Allow me to connect you with a vast network of musicians and producers.
Producing Music: In my studio, we can record and produce the music that you create, or create cover-versions of your favorite songs!
