Private Violin Teacher

Young multilingual (English, Cantonese, and Mandarin) piano and violin teacher who combines the formal traditional Eastern style of teaching, and the fun approach of Western style of teaching into his music lessons.

Fun lessons but also challenging
- I believes that fun lessons are easy to gain young student interest, but it often lack to give them motivation. In the lessons, I often challenge my students, let them be self-motivated and become a better musician.

Techniques
- I focus my lessons on teaching proper techniques with their instruments. With my experiences in taking lessons from American, Chinese, and Russian teachers, I learnt a great spectrum of techniques and like to teach what I had learn.

Learning pieces and other related topics
- Playing pieces and songs is only a small piece of playing an instrument. In lessons, I also teach proper music theory, and ear-training.

I have students from age 4 to retirement age. Early beginner to preparing for college ...

About Koon

I was born in Hong Kong, China. I have been studying music with a dual focus on piano, and violin since the age of 8. I Graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Music with a primary focus on piano performance from Arizona State University. I also hold a violin performance diploma from Trinity College

I didn’t understand secondary dominants and figured bass, but Emily helped me decipher it. She was very friendly, and provided thorough explanations, and I’m doing much better with my theory classes now thanks to her!
Melissa
I had major performance anxiety surrounding tests and auditions. Emily was always very patient with me and knew the difference between my poor singing and when it was just my anxiety. She never made me feel bad about messing up and throughout the year I became so comfortable with her I only stuttered on really difficult sight singing. I would highly recommend to anyone who is looking for a teacher that is not only great at teaching but also incredibly considerate.
Cameron
I had Emily as a TA for aural skills for 2 years and she worked with me both online and in person. Throughout my ear training, she was always supportive and patient with me as she helped me through all the material I struggled with. 10/10.

Viva Aviva!

I am an adult student that is new to the violin but I do play a number of other instruments.

Aviva is an exceptional instructor. So patient and so proficient. Aviava seems to have an innnate ability to know just when to be "picky" and when to perhaps "let a few mistakes" slide. The result . . . I am making consistent progress and know exactly where to focus my time and attention.

Aviva is a gentle but effective motivator and, as such, I alway look so forward to my weekly lesson - and I am definately inclined to work hard so as to try to "please" my teacher.

I have become all but obsessed with all things violin, and much of that is directly attributable to this delightful and talented maestro!

Please do not hesitate to work with her. I can absolutely promise you that you will be glad you did.

Kelvin is an excellent violin teacher. The violin lessons are professional and educational as well as fun easy and exciting. When Kelvin perceive something that needs to be corrected or something that I need to work on, he does it with such helpful analogies and simple instructions that it is easy for me to work on my skills and correct the problem. After each lesson, I always leave with more violin knowledge and techniques than I came with.
