Dr. Susan Carmichael enjoys a multifaceted career. She graduated with her D.M.A. in Flute Performance (2016) from Shenandoah University with one of Britain's premier solo flautists, Jonathan Snowden. She also received a M.M. in Flute Performance from Shenandoah University (2012) and a B.A. in Music from Seton Hill College (2008).

Dr. Carmichael maintains private flute studios at the Shenandoah Conservatory Arts Academy in Winchester, VA, and at her home in Crofton, MD. She previously taught at Shenandoah University as a doctoral teaching assistant, at Musselman High School in West Virginia, and through the Millersville University Music Prepatory Program.

Dr. Carmichael was both a 2012 Bach-Handel soloist and chamber ensemble competition winner at Shenandoah University. She presented the Gordeli Flute Concerto with the Millersville University Wind Ensemble in 2003 and received third place in the 2004-2005 Johnstown Symphony Orchestras Young Artists Competition.
