Beginning piano lessons are a way for students to build self-confidence, learn a new skill, integrate knowledge, and have fun! I took lessons myself for over 10 years, play regularly for church services, and have experience competing in piano competitions.
About Doris J.
Currently I teach college level Anatomy and Physiology. I earned a Doctorate in Neuroscience and welcome students of all ages, experiences, and backgrounds. I also love teaching beginning piano!
I took piano lessons for 10 years as a child and adolescent. I competed in a Sonatina competition and was rated 'Superior.' I regularly play for church services. As a high school student, I was the head drum major for the marching band for 3 years. I teach basic music theory and piano technique. I welcome beginning students to take lessons in my home.
I have had a handful of piano students over the years, but the vast majority of my teaching experience has been at the college level (Anatomy, Physiology, Chemistry, Biology, Cell Biology, Neuroscience, Psychology, College Algebra, Introductory Statistics). I am excited and hopeful to take on piano students interested in learning over the summer break.
I have experience with younger students having previously taught tennis and swimming lessons. As a mother of 2 young children myself, I feel comfortable teaching a wide range of students. I also have experience teaching test strategy and preparing college students for the GRE.
