Teaching since:

I am a long-time music educator and performing vocalist. After obtaining a degree from the Indiana University School of Music, I taught high school choir in Chicago and held the position of alto section leader in the renowned Chicago Chamber Choir. I also performed with the Marion Consort, Music Box Theater, and I was a soloist at St. Gregory's Episcopal Church. In New Orleans, I sing with the selective chamber ensemble, Krewe de Voix, I have performed at the French Quarter Festival, and I am a soloist and section leader at Trinity Episcopal Church. I have seventeen years of experience working with piano and voice students of all ages and ability levels.

In piano lessons, I ask thought provoking questions to encourage students to find patterns in music, to think critically about the music they are learning, and to develop strong aural skills. We focus on technique and theory, but never at the expense of enjoying the experience of playing and learning.

In voice lessons, I specialize in developing beginning-level singers by focusing on breath, posture and aural skills as well as cultivation of vocal quality. If you think you "can't sing," I look forward to proving you wrong!

Dena is really knowledgeable, experienced, and very patient. She's helped me refine my singing voice, improve my vocal tone, and better develop my ear. So grateful I found her!
