Debasish is one of the most sort after and acclaimed tabla teacher and player from Kolkata, India. He is based in Los Angeles, CA. He began learning Tabla from the age of five. He learned from Pandit Nanku Mahar ji (Benaras) and Pandit Kanai Dutta (Farukhabad) and currently over forty years from world-renowned tabla Maestro Pandit Swapan of the Lucknow Gharana. Debasish has performed in many concerts in India, United States, Europe, far-east, including tabla solos, percussion ensembles accompaniment. He accompanied various world-renowned instrumentalists and vocalists of North Indian Classical Music namely Pandit V.G. Jog, Pandit Jasraj , Pandit Manas Chakraborty, Ustad Aashish Khan, Ustad Shahid Parvez, Ustad Nishat Khan, Ustad Irshad Khan, Ravi Kiran and also with table duet with maestro Pandit Swapan to name a few. He is a regular band member for Miles Electric Band formerly Miles Davis Band for the past five years. He Toured and performed with them too. He was also former faculty of Tabla at Pandit Jasraj Foundation in LA and In Tampa. He is been teaching Indian Classical Music for CSSSA (California State Summer School of Arts) for the past 12 years at CALARTS, Valencia CA. He teaches regularly in different locations in LA and has students in Phoenix, Arizona. Debasish is an ‘A’ graded artist of All India Radio. He has a Sangeet Pravakar diploma in tabla, from India. He is a full time Tabla Faculty of Rupak School of World Music, a Los Angeles -based, non-profit organization, founded by him and his Guru Pandit Swapan to promote pure forms of North Indian Classical Music and World Music.
