My two areas of focus are (1) skills for independent note-reading and (2) technique for musicality. I begin most students with Piano Wheel of Knowledge, an essential guide through the basic foundations of piano music. This strengthens basics which students are already comfortable with, and identifies basics students find more challenging or have never seen before. It continues to be a life-long reference as students progress. Just as important as learning skills is working on additional music that is both challenging and appealing to the student. This depends on the student, and every student might have their own path. Regardless, technique is incorporated in every lesson to develop skills for musicality, and theory is incorporated to strengthen musical foundation. For students wanting to progress through exam preparation, the supplement would typically be Trinity or ABRSM, unless a different program is preferred. Lessons are typically structured into four areas: Strength and Agility (exercises to build hand strength and technique), Theory, Reading music, Playing music.
