Composition with David P.

My name is David, and I started writing for orchestras and jazz big bands as a high school student. Since then, I have earned a few degrees in music composition (UT Austin and Univ of Memphis). My works are heard worldwide, and I am an active performer too. I am a professor at the University of North Georgia (composition/theory/technology), and I started working with college-level composers 15+ years ago. I don't limit my teaching to college kids only - I have taught all ages and had some of my younger learners (as young as 10) advance to and win national competitions (NFMC, MTNA, and NAfME). Students that have worked with me have gone on to be professors, technologists, freelance composers, educators, and game composers. I am well versed in composition... whether for orchestra, jazz, small groups, solos, electronic, etc. I give numerous recitals yearly (piano, percussion, or voice) as a soloist or with my wife, Diana (piano). Anyone can be a composer. Age is not an issue - there are ways to harness creative potential - and with access to current technologies, it is a great time to experience what you hear. (or have fun and be surprised by what you can create). My focus in learning is a cooperative experience where we discover your strengths and goals and work from there.
