I first picked up the guitar at age 9, and took an ever increasing interest in it throughout my school years. I attended the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, England and received a Bachelor of Arts in contemporary guitar performance. I performed constantly during this time across England in wedding bands and jazz groups. I then moved to the states and completed a Masters in music composition for film in Seattle, WA. I continued to perform with bands and groups including a Pat Metheny covers band, and a jazz duo with a fellow guitarist. I was also a guitar performer in a comedy improv group called Stone Tablet Improv. I have recently moved to L.A. where I am writing and producing guitar-based music for games, webseries, short films and just about anything! I am very passionate about music and my guitar never leaves my side. I hope to share this passion with many students, and inspire them to tackle this wonderful, challenging art. *** Lesson Details *** I am a very calm, patient teacher and I put a lot of emphasis on ensuring a relaxed learning environment. I like to inspire students by giving them a very hands-on, practical approach to learning music. I try to mix in as much fun as possible. While building technique, scale and chord structure knowledge is extremely important, I also strive to ground all of this knowledge into songs/riffs/chord progressions that the students wishes to learn (perhaps their favorite band or musician). I also believe general musician skills - music theory and notation is very important both with, and away from the instrument. Confidence in playing and performing is another important aspect of musicianship that I hope to reinforce in all of my students. Over time, my students will develop a sound, technical backbone and also generate a musical voice that is unique to them. I hope to continue inspiring them as long as I am teaching them. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide manuscript paper, and any materials I use for teaching. I expect the student to have their own guitar. *** Specialties *** Contemporary guitar: blues, rock, jazz, funk, motown. Methods: by example, ear training
