Hello and welcome all! My name is Cory Jacobs, I'm a Brooklyn born guitarist, educator, and composer, and I'm thrilled that you are reading this, because that means you're interested in pursuing music. I have been teaching and performing for around ten years, and plan on teaching for the rest of my life. Since completing my Master's degree in guitar performance, I've decided that I'm going to use this instrument as a tool for communication, education, and entertainment, in every way that I can. I love sharing music with anyone and everyone, and being the guiding, positive force to help people pursue their goals and learn music, to whatever capacity they intend to.
There is no previous experience in music or guitar necessary to begin lessons. Most of my students began with only a guitar and a bit of enthusiasm, and that's all anyone needs. We'll be doing a lot of learning, playing, listening, and hopefully a bit of laughing, if you enjoy awkward and sometimes bizarre humor.

Home Studio: guitar amp, bass amp, cables
*** Travel Equipment ***
I will come with my guitar, a metronome, and a cable if my student is studying electric guitar. My student should have a guitar, paper, a pencil, a metronome, and an amplifier (for electric guitarists & bassists.)

I teach musical fundamentals and basic technique to all of beginner students, as well as discuss practice methodology, listening practice, and musical style. We will be delving into rudiments quite a bit, but using riffs, melodies, and applicable chord progressions to learn. Learning to read musical notation is not necessary for many musical goals, but we can pursue that route if desired, and it is highly encouraged for a comprehensive musical understanding.
For intermediate students will likely want or need to work on specific things, ie technique, learning specific songs, music theory, learning the ins and outs of specific genres, composition, improvisation. My specialties include pop, rock, metal, funk, jazz, and classical guitar.
I am very open to regular communication with my students to answer questions, share recommended listening or reading, and of course, be on top of scheduling and logistics. I try my best to make our time together a rewarding and fun experience, and to pass forward the great fortune of learning music.
Cory was an excellent, energetic, and helpful instructor! I was picking up guitar from scratch, and his approach was easy going and approachable. Able to provide insight and information on the greater complexities and intricacies of advanced guitar play while imparting the fundamentals and building blocks to establish a foundation of skills & knowledge.+ Read More
Cory is an excellent teacher. He is thoughtful and has plenty of patience in his teaching methods. My daughter has progressed an awful lot in such a short time. She really enjoys learning to play the guitar with his guidance. I would highly recommend Cory to anyone who would like to learn to play guitar.+ Read More
Cory is very clearly extremely knowledgeable about a breadth of music, and is also a very enthusiastic teacher.
Cory is a fantastic instructor. Having previously taken violin lessons with very impatient instructors, I was anxious that classical guitar lessons would be the same since I had no experience. But Cory is not only patient, willing to repeat concepts and move a pace that best suits you, but also kind and genuinely enthusiastic about your progress with the instrument. I would highly recommend him as a teacher.+ Read More
Hello...I would give Cory more than 5 stars if available. Cory is a very professional person and enthusiastic. He loves what he is doing...it is quite obvious. He keeps his lessons interesting and my child remains focused and interested as well.
I highly recommend Cory and no one will ever be disappointed.
Heck...I'd give him 100 stars!
I can't stress enough how important music is in a child's life.(Or an adult's life as well)

Cory is an amazing guitarist with lots of patients and the ability to explain himself thoroughly with compassion for his instrument. I would recommend him to anyone learning guitar at any level.
Cory is excellent at mixing up the lessons, teaching me different things and making it relaxed end enjoyable. I would give him the highest ratings possible. I have been very pleased and I am learning a lot from Cory!
During a lesson, Cory can take any question of mine and explain the core concepts and ideas regarding music theory I might have had in a way that gets me excited about guitar. He can easily tailor a lesson to a particular topic of interest while still incorporating planned topics into our time. My tastes in music run wide and luckily so does Cory's so we can work on harmony in a jazz context and connect that to metal or even take from classical. He has a lot of guitars, including a 7 string and his home studio is equipped with amps so two guitars can be plugged in. I'd highly recommend Cory to anyone.
Cory was my first guitar teacher and I learned a lot with him! Very honest on the points I needed to focus and great practicing tips!
Cory is absolutely wonderful! He is articulate, very knowledgeable, patient and has a pleasant personality. I look forward to learning from him as I believe he will help me accomplish a goal I had given up years ago - to be a good guitar player.
