Over 25 years violin teaching experience. I have successfully taught students ages 3 to adult. Anyone can learn to play the violin. Lessons in a comfortable setting in my studio.
*** Lesson Details ***
Lessons are taught in my home in a comfortable setting. Parents are encouraged to sit in on lessons and are expected to help their child practice. I teach the Suzuki Method and the Suzuki book and recording are required. I will change details to suit a student, for instance I teach note reading long before a traditional Suzuki teacher would and I will add non-Suzuki materials into lessons if needed.
Elements of the Suzuki Philosophy
- every child (or adult) can learn
- listening and encouragement are essential
- parents are the real teachers, I am the director
- Love. I love each student and teach through my love
- accept where your child is, but challenge them to be better
- constant review and repetition of materials is essential to learning
- compete only with yourself, not your peers or parents
- character is developed as the child gains knowledge and ability
When learning music, your child is taught true self-confidence. They know they truly have achieved a great thing when they learn to play an instrument. The things they learn, such as patience and perseverance, will pour over into all areas of their lives
*** Studio Equipment ***
Young students are started out on a play violin so they can learn the proper positions before they graduate to their real violin. I will assist parents in finding the right instrument for their child.
*** Specialties ***
I have never found a child who couldn't learn music. Obviously, some will learn faster than others, but with the right encouragement and help from their parents, any child can learn to play the violin.

Charlene is a patient, kind teacher. She teaches violin and piano to both of my daughters, and does an excellent job!
Very patient and encouraging. Sets realistic goals. Great experience even as a parent observing.
She is ONE super sweet and very Kind person. It was my first lesson on violin ever - so I was making a bunch of errors from holding the violin and moving the bow. She was very patient with me and explained very nice.
Charlene is absolutely wonderful! She is patient and accommodating. My 10 year old son looks forward to his lesson every week. We are so lucky to have found her as a teacher.

For my first lesson ever I think it went very well.
What a wonderful, encouraging, patient teacher! This is our first experience with violin and the Suzuki method. My almost 6 year old came home today from her lesson smiling from ear to ear and said, "I had so much fun!" I am amazed at the sound that I'm hearing from her violin already. Charlene is one of those special teachers that all parents hope to find.+ Read More
Megan loved her lesson! Charlene was great!
My son took violin lessons with Charlene as a preschooler through 3rd grade before we moved away from Michigan in the early 1990s. I only have the best to say about Charlene's abilities as a thoughtful, attentive, proactive, discerning, creative teacher. She loves what she does, which showed in my son's attitude about attending lessons and his continued passion for music and string instruments 20 years later.+ Read More
Charlene is a most capable teacher and very very patient with even the youngest students
My daughter began lessons with Charlene last summer. When I first started searching for teachers, I was told that she was too old to learn the violin. Charlene has proved that is not the case and I am amazed at the progress my daughter has made for never having played an instrument before. Charlene's dedication to her students, along for her love of music, is evident in her teaching. We are both so happy we found her.+ Read More

Excellent violin teacher
Charlene has done a wonderful job with teaching my 6 year old daughter the fundamentals of playing the violin using the Suzuki method. She has not only helped technically, but has also given my daughter the encouragement and patience necessary to develop her confidence with playing. Her high level of experience and passion for playing the violin is very evident. I would highly recommend Charlene to anyone looking to improve their performance with this instrument.
