I have a genuine passion for teaching drums to all ages and experience levels. I studied Jazz at University of New Orleans with Troy Davis, Jason Marsalis and Herman Lebeaux. I have 11 years experience teaching private lessons and clinics. Teaching is a way to inspire creativity and self-expression in my students. I have experience teaching the following: Classical and Marching Percussion, Jazz, Rock, New Orleans Music, Afro-Cuban, Afro-Brazilian, Funk and R&B. I also have experience teaching students with learning disabilities (ADHD, Aspergers Syndrome and Tourettes.)
Taught private lessons to students of all ages and experience levels.
Cedar is the best! My daughter loves getting lessons from him. She has grown so much in her talent.
My 13 year old son has been taking lessons from Cedar for about a year and loves it! My son has not only improved greatly his music ability as to drums, but Cedar is also willing to branch out to other percussion instruments that my son has always wanted to try. Cedar really connects with the kids (both younger and teens) and makes the experience a fun time in addition to a learning experience. My son took other music lessons in the past and it was sometimes a struggle to get him to want to go to practice- we have never had this issue with Cedar. We also have a crazy schedule and sometimes we need to cancel and reschedule and Cedar is always willing to work with us. In my opinion, he is an excellent teacher and I would highly recommend him .+ Read More

Mr. CEDAR IS AWESOME DRUM TEACHER AND IS VERY PATIENT WITH MY SON WHO HAS ADHD. MY SON ADORES CEDAR AND HARDLY EVER WANT TO MISS LESSONS. HE IS A GREAT DRUM TEACHER.
My son was a student of Cedar's for several years, and learned so much from him. Cedar consistently went out of his way to make sure that my son was enjoying himself during a lesson, all while imparting the necessary skills and knowledge that are needed to become an excellent drummer. He tailored each lesson to fit my son's personality and needs, and that definitely made all the difference. Cedar is truly passionate about what he does, and that passion is reflected in the way he teaches his students.+ Read More
I have been taking drum lessons with Cedar for about 7 months. His teaching style is laid back. You don't have to worry about being reprimanded harshly for getting something wrong. Cedar makes the process fun. He tailors the lessons to what you need. No two lessons are alike.
I like the fact that he incorporates music theory into my lessons. I also play the piano and guitar so I have previous musical experience. Sometimes it is hard to pick up on the beat of a song just by listening to it. If I have trouble, Cedar will write out the music for me and I pick up on the beat better. This is also helpful when I am practicing at home without music. Having music theory experience is a plus because several musicians do not possess the skill. Music theory is the difference between a good musician and a great musician.
The MRtins experince has been great Mr Cedar relates to Ronnie as his student and a friend and Ronnie luvs him for that.
Cedar is an awesome drum teacher. He has taught my 17 year old grandson and 10 year old grandson. Neither of them knew how to play drums before learning from him. He knows how to relate to them and they have fun while learning. I highly recommend him for anyone considering learning to play the drums.+ Read More
Cedar was a wonderful teacher for my son. Aside from being an excellent drummer he is patient, compassionate and encouraging. The world needs more teachers like Cedar.
When our son was nine, Cedar was home from Tulane for the summer(s) and instructed our son on drums for two consecutive summers. Cedar is a very accomplished musician and his ability to work with students no matter the skill level, combined with his knowledge, patience, and passion, is tireless. Cedar knew how to engage and encourage our son, while keeping the lessons fun, but challenging. It is evident that Cedar enjoys working with kiddos and has a natural talent for connecting with not only young students, but adults as well. Our son is now in his senior year at a fine arts school, where he is in his third year of visual arts, and his second year of jazz performance and jazz theory. Cedar continues to be an inspiration as well as a mentor to our son.+ Read More
Cedar is the BEST instructor!!! My son Mason since he was a little boy always wanted to play the drums. Once Mason reached elementary school, Cedar began to teach Mason Music Theory and drum lessons. It was the best decision we ever made! Cedar has taught Mason so very much and the past 5 years have been wonderfully spent knowing that my son is being taught by one of the best teachers around. Cedar has a very kind, gentle and talented spirit and we consider Cedar as part of our family. Mason, who is now 14 years old, has excelled in the music world and now plays the drums, guitar and piano and it's all due to Cedar flourishing Mason with the richness of the love of music that he shares with his students.+ Read More
