    About Carlos M.

    With over a decade of performing experience, Carlos is a devoted student of jazz and has studied with Dave Eshelman, Dann Zinn, Harry Skoler, Mike Mcmullin, Dann Higgins, Dale Wolford and others. He completed a performance certificate at the Berklee school of music in Boston, where he was awarded a scholarship on alto sax by the Berklee World Scholarship Tour (2004). He has also toured Italy, France, and Switzerland performing at venues such as the Montreux, Vienne, and Umbria festivals and performed at Yoshi's with the award winning CSUH Jazz Ensemble(2005-2007). During his participation with the CSUEB Jazz Ensemble he received the Outstanding College Saxophonist award at the Reno Jazz Festival (2007). As part of the collegiate experience he performed with many jazz greats and had the opportunity to be featured with the Mike Vax big band. Professional credits include performing with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame band The Dells and Papa J (Sly and the Family Stone), as well as the Disney All-American College Band (lead alto 2006). Carlos holds a Bachelor of Music Degree and a Master of Music Degree in performance from Sacramento State University. Currently Carlos is an in demand sideman and also leads his own 9 piece latin band as well as a quartet. His educational credits include directing the Sacramento State University Latin Jazz Ensemble. His album "May is Gone" will debut in early 2014. *** Lesson Details *** My goal as a teacher is to have my students be thoroughly grounded in solid musicianship fundamentals. This prepares students for a variety of musical experiences and a lifetime of learning. *** Specialties *** My specialty is Jazz studies.
