Double Bass Performance & Music Education

    About Bridgette M.

I am a semi-professional Double Bassist. I have a double degree in Bass Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music where I studied under virtuoso and professor James VanDemark. I have been playing and studying Double Bass since I was 9 years old and won my first Nyssma audition and first solo performance 1 year after I began playing and been a member of the local Empire State Youth Orchestra until I graduated HS. During HS as an advanced player, I started teaching other younger students who have gone on to attend music conservatories and have their own careers playing the double bass. I also became well-known in the area having performed in the Johnson Family Trio (Violin, Cello, Bass) as well as through winning many scholarships every year from the NY Philharmonic and different organizations to study and perform at Luzerne, Chautauqua, Tanglewood, Round Top...where I've studied under amazing Principle Bassists like Curtis Burris, Roger M. Scott of Philadelphia Symphony, Todd Seeber, Lawrence Wolfe & Edwin Barker of the Boston Symphony... I have experience playing and performing alongside musicians from conductors like Paavo Jaarvi, Seiji Ozawa, Leonard Slatkin, David Effron to performers like YoYo Ma. I am a USMC Veteran Musician having performed in the US Marine Band in San Diego as the first female bassist to ever enlist in the USMC. I chose the option to attend the Armed Forces School of Music where I took 6 months to learn how to play the Electric Bass Guitar and Jazz studies. On arriving at my duty station for the Marine Band at MCRD San Diego, I additionally went outside of classical music to teach myself other techniques like slap, funk, rock, latin and more to play genres with the electric bass for Jazz band, Showband, etc. as well using my upright in Concert Band. This experience has made me a more versatile player and honed additional skill sets as a bass player. I currently am a performer with the Fort Worth Civic Orchestra, Brazos Chamber Orchestra and am often requested to perform professionally around town for different organizations. I am told I am a tough but fair teacher and expect results each lesson! I am interested in students who want to work hard to hone their skills to launch themselves into the higher plain of Double Bass Musicianship. What are your goals? I can take you there.
