    About Billy F.

I have been a guitar and banjo instructor since 2011, teaching students of all ages and skill levels. Though my main area of expertise is in bluegrass and related genres, I work with students to develop a solid foundation that can be carried over into any style of music. In banjo lessons, I focus on the fundamentals of three-finger and clawhammer technique, learning tunes by ear and from tab as well as developing improvisation. In guitar lessons, I start students with the basics of flatpicking technique, rhythm playing, learning by ear, constructing melodies and improvisation. Though I usually provide lesson plans, I also work to accomodate students needs on an individual basis. About me: I have worked all over the country as a freelance banjo and guitar player for the past five years. In 2013, I received my bachelor's degree from Berklee College of Music in Boston, with an emphasis in performance and teaching.
