Seminole, Florida
I teach the very beginner to the very advanced levels. combining piano technique with music theory and some history and analysis of western music so the student will understand what he's doing and be able to interpret in the right style of the music he's playing.
About Berthe H.

My name is Berthe ( pronounced Bert). At the age of 4, I began taking piano lessons. By age 8, I was performing for the first time at the Assembly Hall of the American University of Beirut. In 1978, I attended the Faculty of Music of the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik/Lebanon, where I completed a PhD. in music education and a higher diploma in piano. From 1982 to 2000, I taught piano, music theory, music education, music appreciation, and the history of and analysis of Western music at the University of the Holy Spirit of Kaslik (USEK), The University of St. Joseph (USJ) and the Lebanese University (UL). I recorded my first CD “Rehna Meshouar”, a collection of Lebanese songs for children, intended to introduce music to kids. I took part in many educational activities and devoted myself to the promotion of musical education to the children. In 1995, I published my first book “Do-Mi-Sol”, that focuses on a method specifically designed to teach kids Solfege (oral theory and ear training). From 1998 to 2001 I was in charge of training aspiring music teachers at the Ecole Normale in piano, music education, psychology of music education, and the philosophy of music education. By the year 2000,I was appointed Director of Studies and the Academic Secretary of the Music Faculty at the Holy Spirit University of Kaslik. During my tenure, I employed teachers, advised students, and developed artistic and academic programs. It was my responsibility to organize studies and examinations, as well as plan, execute, organize studies and examinations, as well as plan and execute concerts, conventions, and competitions. I have lectured all over Europe and the Middle East, as well as published many articles concerning music and music education. Since moving to Florida in 2007, I am a professor of piano instruction at St. Petersburg College. I also give private lessons in my studio. I have served as a judge several times at the Bay Ridge Piano Festival. *** Lesson Details *** Our musical journey has a smooth and relaxed progression, establishing enough command of the keyboard to allow each student to develop naturally. To make the piano a richer and more rewarding experience, I enjoy introducing a variety of musical styles, from popular favorites to timeless classical pieces, according to the student’s musical tastes. I believe in a dynamic and responsive method of teaching. I see the student as an active participant in their own learning. Our lesson feels pleasant and joyful, so the student will always delight in playing the piano and creating music. Based on the student’s age and demands, I employ several methods of teaching that lead to the development of observation, concentration, creativity, self-confidence, and personal expression. I encourage and support my students regardless of specific talent, as we move toward an effective and beneficial musical experience. *** Studio Equipment *** Living room: baby grand piano, additional seating for parents. *** Specialties *** I teach Classical music to beginners and advanced students and follow the active method of teaching where the student is not just a receiver but participate in his own learning.

Dr. Berthe is the most incredible teacher!! Our two children have very different personalities but she mirrors each child and modifies her teaching style to bring out the absolute best in each student. Several of our friends recommended her to us and some of those children who have been playing with her for years have the most beautiful technique and musicality. Ours are beginners but she is teaching them proper technique masterfully - and joyfully. She is widely recognized as a top piano teacher in the community. We are so lucky and grateful to have Dr. Berthe teaching our kids!!

I'm a professional composer and Berklee graduate, but the piano is not my main instrument. I was trying to teach myself on piano, and it was not working. I was practicing but was not progressing. I needed a clear method and someone who knew how to teach proper technique. Berthe provided a strong methodology and showed me all of the subtle technique fixes I needed to get my playing up to speed. I've had many "ah-ha" moments when taking lessons from Berthe. She plays beautifully and teaches in a way that only very experienced teachers can. I highly recommend her for learning to play baroque, classical/contemporary, and romantic music with the bonus of receiving a deeper understanding of the history and theory behind the music.
