I am a native New Yorker who has been a professional, internationally performing, DJ for over 20 years. And I have been teaching other professional DJs almost as long. I am not a turntablist. I do not teach fancy scratching. I am a mix/blend DJ. I am very strong at teaching beginners and helping more advanced students to take their deejaying to the next level. I have a huge vinyl collection and I am primarily a vinyl DJ as a performer, but I am well-versed in all the DJ technology, from computer-based platforms, to CD-Js, to controllers. I do not offer lessons shorter than an hour because I think anything shorter is not long enough and does a disservice to the student. I charge more because you get your money's worth. I am happy to provide testimonials from past students.

I can count my DJ lessons with Benjamin as some of the most rewarding, exciting, and inspiring experiences that I have had in my short, young life. His skill, generosity and unfailing patience knows no bounds. His knowledge of MUSIC - sonically and historically - is quite astounding. Nothing is impossible or unachievable under his guidance; with a little time and effort put in. I am one of the most impatient and easily frustrated students that any teacher could have the displeasure of coming across, but Ben always managed to encourage and help keep me going, stay motivated, and practice regularly - to great effect. Perhaps the most important thing I have learned from my lessons with Ben is that a DJ who makes no mistakes is a DJ who is not taking enough risks. "There is no safe road to Paradise".

I have been DJ-ing for about five years on CD-Js (disco, funk, boogie, Afro-Latin) and felt the need to step up my game and make a fresh start with vinyl. Thus, I bought the equipment and a sufficient amount of records and started practicing. However after a few months I realized that my progress was too slow and that I was missing the basics (vinyl is no joke). After hearing DJ Scribe perform on several occasions I was amazed at his musical selection and knocked out by his skill to blend complex tracks smoothly and yet in a novel, interesting way. Needless to say, I was delighted to learn that he takes students and subsequently had more than a handful of lessons with him. I can only verify what Ben said about himself above. In addition i can say that he is extremely patient, flexible, didactically minded, thorough and attentive. It is not only his mastery over the instrument of choice (turntables) but also his record collection, detailed knowledge of music history and above all--a genuine love for music (especially the good ones)--which made these lessons a remarkable experience for me. At the end of each session, we would analyze my improvements and what needed improvement while Ben would give a list of things that I should be practicing for our next session. Already after the first lesson I felt a significant advancement in my skills and so was true for every subsequent one. I cannot recommend him highly enough.

Ben is the most skillful, knowledgeable, and genuine DJ/Instructor I have ever had. I was once his student myself and learned so much from his lessons. He not only taught me both fundamental and essential Djing techniques but also helped me build my own musical repertoire. Up until now, I continue to ask him for his advice and feedback. He is a great mentor who's always happy to help his students. Worth every $. Take his lessons!
