Master of Music - Cello Performance

Learn cello from an expert with over 17 years of experience!

Hi, my name is Ben Bauer. I currently teach group classes for the Merit School of Music. I've been performing for the past 17 years with orchestras, smaller ensembles and as a soloist. Through studying with me, you'll establish a solid technical foundation, expand the variety of musical "colors" available to you in performance, and learn practice strategies that will help you progress quickly. I'm open to teach any level of player, whether you're starting from scratch or are already an accomplished cellist. I'll tailor my teaching style to your individual needs and help you achieve your goals through both challenging and inspiring you. I primarily teach child beginners, but am happy to take on a student of any age and prior knowledge. If you're eager to learn cello, I'd love to be your guide.

    About Ben B.

I recently earned my Master of Music degree from the Indiana University Jacobs School of Music, and prior to that earned my Bachelor of Music degree from the University of Wisconsin: Madison. I've enjoyed a multi-faceted performing career, including symphony orchestras, movie orchestras, opera orchestras, chamber music, wedding performances, and solo recitals. My cello studies began at the age of 7, with my private studies beginning at the age of 11. Prior to attending the University of Wisconsin: Madison on a full ride scholarship in cello performance, I performed with the Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra (MYSO) and volunteered for MYSO's Progressions program. My primary teachers were Barbara Ballin and Greg Mathews (former and current Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra cellists, respectively), Uri Vardi and Peter Stumpf. I've premiered several new works by living composers, most recently performing on Indiana University's An Evening of New Works for String Quartet. Outside of cello playing I enjoy coffee roasting, concerts, movies, reading and cooking.
