My name is Beckie and I have played music for all of my life. I play and teach many different instruments such as the French horn, trumpet, piano, saxophone, mandolin, guitar, and voice.
In 2017, I graduated from UCLA with my Masters in Music on French horn. In 2010, I graduated from Chapman University with two degrees in music- music performance on French horn and music education.
My first job was as at a Montessori Academy elementary school, where I was the brass coach for 3 years. This is where I fell in love with teaching. I have been teaching privately for 15 years now and love the one-on-one attention that I can give the students.
I have worked with many great organizations like the Los Angeles Philharmonic and various music studios around Los Angeles.
I currently am a freelance musician, Elementary school music teacher, brass coach for two local high schools and a private music teacher! I perform with orchestras and groups all around the Los Angeles area. I have performed in such wonderful venues as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and the Sydney Opera house, in which I was able to premier a piece!
I look forward to working with you or your child in helping to start or continue a musical instrument!
*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach lessons, I like to check in with the student to see how their day was and how practicing throughout the week went. I am very patient and will teach at the student's pace. I expect the student to practice during the week, even if for just 10 minutes a day. I will always work with a student as long as it takes to have them understand what is difficult for them musically.
For music, I try to find free options but books may be a better option. When we choose a book to play out of, I like to choose a book together so that the parent and the child are happy about the selection. Books vary based on what the needs are for each student. Books are to be purchased by the parent.
I usually play my instruments with the students, but being a freelance musician, I may need to save my chops for an upcoming gig. Not always, but happens from time to time :)
I also have a 24-hour cancellation/lesson change policy. If you are late for your lesson, I will try to accommodate the time but may have students or rehearsals afterward so it will not always be a guarantee. If you are going to be late, please text me BEFORE the scheduled lesson. Lessons are to be every week as I DO NOT teach bi-weekly lessons.
*** Studio Equipment ***
Lesson space is in my home w/ seating for parents and music stand for students. I also have a cat and a dog, so if you are allergic, please let me know! The dog and the cat are put away for the lessons as to not distract either one of us! They are pretty cute!
*** Travel Equipment ***
I expect the student to provide the music books and their own instruments and music stand.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in classical genres of playing but I am able to teach all different styles of music.

Outstanding instructor! Beckie is very positive and encouraging and my son has learned so much in just a few weeks. My son looks forward to his session each week. She is also an amazing musician herself and plays her instrument side by side with my son which allows him to hear and learn the individual notes.+ Read More
Thank you Ms. Beckie! You are awesome!
Tthe lessons were very enjoyable and fun!
Beckie is a very talented teacher who knows how to explain things so your ability to play music increases dramatically. She laughs easily and makes lessons so much fun. I highly recommend her as a teacher!
I’ve observed Beckie teaching French Horn and Trumpet. She is extremely capable and, especially with her younger students, very nurturing and encouraging. She is very knowledgeable and clearly explains the techniques and principles she is teaching. She is also very patient.+ Read More
I had next to no experience on the horn, and I had learned and improved greatly from the first lesson. From my experience, should you need to jump into horn from the bottom, Beckie is the ideal teacher because of her attention to detail and positive attitude that makes progress exponential.+ Read More
She canceled and rescheduled so many lessons due to personal reasons, such as playing somewhere, house construction, etc. When my wife sent her text because my son couldn't make a lesson, she didn't check and charged anyway for no-show. The she cancelled all the remaining lessons. I don't think she is very professional.
Sorry Beckie, but you need to set your priority before taking students. My son is not something you can give lesson whenever you feels like.
Becky was great! Kind and gentle teaching manner. Brody is excited to have homework and looks forward to next week!
Awesome teacher! My daughter loves her! She fills in the empty spaces her marching band coach doesn't teach!
Ms. Beckie is a great French horn teacher. You can learn a lot from her. She is extremely nice and wants the best for everyone.
Beckie is so sweet and helpful - exactly what I needed!!!
First lesson was very good. She was very professional and good with our child.
Beckie did a great job with my Granddaughter on the Piano! Maddy loved her piano lessons with Beckie. My grandson also took Trumpet lessons with Beckie. Although she did not have an actual trumpet to bring to the lessons Beckie did a terrific job showing Jacob the music he wanted to learn and some trumpet playing concepts.+ Read More
My 11 year old has been taking lessons with Beckie for about a month and I couldn't be happier. The first time we met Beckie we immediately discovered she is a very friendly and welcoming instructor. I noticed that my son was immediately at ease with her and all apprehension about meeting a new teacher left him. Driving home after that first lesson he commented on how much he liked Beckie. Beckie does a great job of explaining the theory part of the lessons and I'm excited to see my son's ability grow. My only regret is not having met her sooner.+ Read More
She is very nice and sweet. She has been very helpful increasing my ability to play the french horn. I love her tips and advice and makes my lessons fun.
Jacob felt very positive about his lesson today. Beckie assured him that they could work on everything he's wanting to do.
Very good lesson. Maddy is really happy with what she learned.
Very friendly first private lesson for granddaughter they seemed to communicate well with each other. Izzy was very excited and asked for longer lesson the next day.
Beckie is wonderful. My 11-year-old daughter has been meeting her online for about 6 lessons now. Beckie is very patient and engaging. My daughter has asked to add on longer lessons. That is a good sign!
Beckie is fabulous - with children, too!
Our 5 year old son has been taking trumpet lessons with Beckie now for 3 months. He has done amazing progress, is eager to practice every day in order to please her, and looks forward to each lesson. Beckie is incredibly encouraging, kind, yet strict enough to keep child's play away from the lesson, and finds ways to make a small child understand the basics of music theory. She balances the lesson nicely between actual playing and theory, never tiring out the student too much with either one. She's reliable, always on time, and communicates very well with both student and parents about any wishes we may have. She makes our son feel special, and he is very sad having to leave her, as we are moving out of the country this summer. His own words being: "Isn't it sad that I'll have to stop my lessons with Beckie, now that we've just gotten started - I really like the way she teaches."
All this to say... we warmly recommend her, and regret having to stop lessons with her. And that we encourage anybody, adult or child wanting to learn the trumpet (or any other instrument Beckie teaches!) to use her services!
