Music Education with a Concentration in Voice

Grow into your potential and fulfill your unique goals with a certified music teacher.

Gerald Ford, a former President of the United States of America, remarked how "music education opens doors" for children to move into the world - "a world of work, culture, intellectual activity, and human involvement." Firmly believing in this ideal, through numerous years of study, I have grown to believe that no matter the age or demographic, an understanding of music greatly impacts all, as we pursue continue to pursue growth as well-rounded, holistic individuals. With this stance, I intentionally strive to work and teach in a way that allows you to grow into your potential and reach your unique goals! What to Expect: Adult Music & Other Vocal Training Needs: There is never a bad time to start discovering more about music. Starting with your personal goals, we will focus in on developing toward your unique goals and your specific potential. Whether you consider yourself a beginner, intermediate, or advanced in your craft, we can work from where you are and continue to grow toward your unique potential. This will also allow for experiences, such as auditions and repertoire development, in order to allow for greater personal expression. Elementary Music: (Early Childhood - 5th Grade) As elementary music serves an integral role in the healthy formation of a child's musical understanding, part of our larger goal during this time will be the development of tuneful, beatful, and artful musicians. In this, coupled with an understanding of the developmentally-appropriate ways to approach learning, we will playfully explore the various facets of music as well as introduce aspects of visual literacy. This will include work such as imaginative play while also developing fundamental skills that prepare the child to become a musical adolescent. Throughout this time, we can also focus on any other goals that may show up as the child is growing into their artistry. Middle School Music: (6th Grade - 8th Grade) Middle school music serves a focus that allows a child to find healthy ways to engage with the world while also fostering musical intelligence and mastery. In this time, we will focus intently on mastering skills and fundamental techniques that will serve the child as they continue to progress in their musical understanding. Having experience working with students whose voices are changing, I am confident in being able to care well for and help students as they navigate a possibly nerve-wracking vocal transition. During this period of time, we will learn things such as the basics behind reading music, vocal technique exercises, and begin to introduce sight-reading. We will also be able to focus heavily on the child's unique goals, such as auditions or grasping a further understanding of their voice. High School Music: (9th Grade - 12th Grade) High school music, while exemplifying the necessity of developing tuneful, beatful and artful musicians, gives way to the focus of music as an aesthetic experience related to personal expression. In this time, we will focus on the learning of and refinement of skills such as an introduction to music theory, vocal technique and sight-reading. While continuing to develop an expansive understanding of music, we will also place a larger emphasis on the child's unique goals. This will allow experiences, such as auditions and repertoire development, to become pathways of personal expression for the child as they continue to obtain greater control of their instrument. Feel free to grab a 15-min lesson to see if it would work for you!

As a teacher, I believe that it's important to help students feel uplifted in their pursuit to reach their individual goals. With my multi-pronged approach toward growth, I aim to cultivate a sense of confidence that allows students to work toward their goals and fulfill their potential. I am a Baylor University graduate who studied Music Education with a Concentration in Voice. Through gaining an incredible wealth of knowledge during my program, I have been further privileged to pursue my love of not only teaching music, but working with students in general, regardless of age or ability level. With a strong understanding of pedagogy and the psychological processes behind learning, as well as years of working with students ranging from early childhood to professional musicians, I hope to learn from you about your unique goals, and to work with you to create an approach that supports you in achieving them!
